Titanic news! Kate Winslet reunites with director James Cameron for 'Avatar' sequels

Kate Winslet's heart may have gone on after starring in Titanic, but she hasn't lost her connection to director James Cameron.

Winslet, who played Rose alongside Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack in Cameron's 1997 blockbuster, has reunited with Cameron to play a starring role in his upcoming Avatar films.

Winslet, who stars with Idris Elba in The Mountain Between Us, will play the pivotal character Ronal in the Cameron's adventure series, a person familiar with the films now under way but not authorized to.

“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,” Cameron told Deadline.com, which broke the news. “I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”

Winslet will join cast members from the original 2009 Avatar — Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, plus new additions, including Fear the Walking Dead star Cliff Curtis.

Production for all four planned Avatar sequels began on September 25, with the first film scheduled for release on Dec. 18, 2020.

The second sequel will open on Dec. 17, 2021, followed by Avatar 4 on Dec. 20, 2024 and Avatar 5 on Dec. 19, 2025.
