In her 2017 Grammy's performance, a very pregnant Beyoncé performed in resplendent gold, complete with headdress, blossoms, sequins, billowing fabric, and of course, her wind-fan. It was an awe-inspiring look as she sang to us about building sandcastles, and very much embodiment the orisha, Oshun, whom she also channeled in the visuals on her recent album, Lemonade. Oshun is the mother of all the other orishas and is associated with the element of water. She is the quintessence of the divine feminine—endlessly creating and recreating herself, just as rainwater always seeks to join that which is most like itself until it becomes as vast as the sea, Beyoncé's performance reminds us of what it means to truly live in the present as well as Oshun's greatest lesson—we are at our best when we do not let the events of tomorrow affect our performance today.

Today is a day, that at long last, you feel you are ready to transform into a new version of yourself. And although in this area of your life you may yet be untested, or the people you usually associate with may not yet recognize these very real changes, it is your birthright to wield the Sword of Truth, and that counts for a lot. It counts so much in fact, that just saying to yourself, "Challenge accepted," is most of the battle. You will prove victorious today in deposing an outdated version of yourself that was content to succumb to others' opinions of your life. Now is the time to lift your voice and to speak up and out and know that when you do, you are also speaking your truth. Days like today are a gift, so be sure to recognize your newfound confidence as something to be wielded with integrity. And as you drop all your past woes and worries about the future, don’t forget to save a moment to dance your way into the changing tide. You’ll be amazed at who will and won’t be able to keep up.
