P&J's Patisserie - absolute divine
While looking for somewhere for afternoon tea with my wife the other week, we Googled searched and found this patisserie which had quite a high ranking (let's hope in future we can Tasteem search everything instead of Google search).
It's called P&J's Patisserie, which stands for Peter and Joyce and occupies a corner position on a quiet road in a residential area in Taichung, Taiwan. Here's their shop front. The seating area is on the left hand side, and the serving area is on the right hand side.
As we walked inside, we, or rather my wife as she is a cake lover, was immediately drawn to the stunning cakes in the fridge. Even I couldn't resist the temptation. They were so exquisite. I'll come back to that in a minute.
There were about 15 seats all together, not many so even if they have a full house it won't get too noisy, which is great. It was a weekday when we went and just after lunch, so it wasn't very busy.
Ordering the drink was the easy part, as they only had a few different type of coffees available. The menu was on a board on the wall. With neither of us being much of a coffee drinker, we randomly choose one each.
The next part was more difficult as there were so many cakes on offer. All the cakes here have a mousse filling which is much lighter than a sponge, and they have a wide variety of flavours. Ther are hand made of course by the owners and very creative. For example The Neptune has a chestnut mousse filling and is USD5.80. The White Marble looks so real and has a mango filling, you wouldn't expect that from the exterior. This was was USD4.20.
In the end my wife decided on the Peach (always wise to let the females make these sort of decisions!). I have to say it was a good call. If you look carefully on the outside, it really does look like a real peach. The 'skin' is actually a very thin chocolate shell, then there's a tieguanyin mousse inside. Tieguanyin is a fragrant green tea and not too overpowering, just right. Then in the centre, there are some fresh peach pieces which complements the mousse perfectly. Although I'm not that much of a dessert lover, I was very impressed. USD5.20 may sound a bit pricey, but if you think of the technique, the skill, the creativity that goes into making this, and how delicious it is (yes, it is!), it's worth every cent. Divine! Was how my wife described it.
The full address for this patisserie if you want to try it yourself is 30, Lane 229, Minquan Road, West District, Taichung City.

thanks for the update. Wow I was drawn in by the cakes. They are like a work of art and I don't think I want to eat them. Your description of the cakes already gave me a nice idea what it tastes like
I'm sure no girls can resist these beautiful cakes

great review but can you add the actual address in the post as I know the google map location sometimes doesn't allow the address even it is pinned as we can see. thanks!
For some reason it won't search the full address even when I type it in so I can only type in the partial address. The actual address is in the post now. Thanks!
The dessert looks so unique. I like that 海王星. The color is so beautiful.
They all looked very tempting, sadly we just had lunch so couldn't try more
