A nice Italian dinner at the magnificent Kopaszi dike in Budapest

The Kopaszi dike in the eleventh district of Budapest is a real gem for couples, for friends, and for families with kids. Among locals it is known as the Kopaszi gát. It is located a bit outside the inner city of Budapest, but close to the famous party boat A38 which was voted the best bar in the world by Lonely Planet in 2012.

Earlier today I visited the Kopaszi dike, and we walked along the dike enjoying the view towards the Danube, and of course, the restaurants and the green areas.

Quickly the kids got hungry, and it was time to grab something to eat. There are several restaurants at Kopaszi Dike, but we decided to visit Veranda, an Italian restaurant.

A dinner in Veranda

I do love Italian food, but I do not love all sorts of Italian food. Earlier this week I wrote about my visit to the Jamie Oliver restaurant in Budapest, a place that I left with mixed feelings afterward. So what was Veranda at Kopaszi dike like?

The interior of the restaurant is nice, but nothing special. They have a small corner for kids were they can play, and they also have their own candy and ice cream bar, meaning that you can visit the place, even if you do not have the intention of eating a serious dinner.

Veranda isn't among the cheapest restaurants in Budapest, so pizza will cost around 8 Euro, and the other Italian main courses like a Bolgnese or a Carbonara cost around 8-10 Euro. If you want to have a soft drink, the price is around 1,5 Euro for a bottle with 0,25 L. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. You should be told that they automatically add 12,5% service fee (tip) to the bill in the end.

The food at Veranda in Budapest

Tonight we ate a couple of pizzas, and also had some kids menus with wiener schnitzel and fries. I have earlier eaten the Bolognese at the restaurant and some other main courses.

ham pizza.jpg

The pizzas were just fine, but the pizza with ham as you can see on the picture above, was a bit tasteless and not so exciting. But, it was still a pizza, and just the way pizzas are when you eat them out in restaurants.

The second pizza came with salami and corn, and it was much better and had much more taste than the ham pizza. Unfortunately, my companions made this their favorite, meaning that I only got one slice. But, this was a very good pizza. The crust of both pizzas were nice, not too thin and not too thick!

The kids menu was also interesting. It was a traditional wiener schnitzel, and it was very crispy and nice, making it better here than many other places in Budapest. The fries felt more authentic than the McDonald's fries, something that should be counted as a plus as well.

All in all about Veranda

We had a great time at Veranda in Budapest earlier tonight. It might not be the best Italian restaurant in Budapest, but it is the best Italian at Kopaszi dike, making it a perfect place to eat lunch or dine if you visit their utterly fantastic area in Budapest!

If you have been to Veranda and wnat to shre your thoughts, or if you should have a comment or question, please let me know!
