Tattoos In Today's Society.
Tattoos are a big part of our culture. From the spiritual or enlightened tattoos, all the way down to an unfortunate decision made in a haze and daze.
While the origin of Tattoos remains speculation, There is evidence that dates the art as far back as 5,200 years old with the discovery of the Iceman from the Italian/Australian border in 1991. He was discovered to have a series of dots and crosses on his lower spine, Right knee and ankle joints Which Indicates that he may have received them as some form rehabilitation or pain therapy for deteriorating joints.
There is also evidence indicating that the Ancient Egyptians also had tattoos , They have even discovered Small Bronze Implements identified as tattooing tools. One of the Highly popular theories on Ancient Egyptians tattooing practices was to protect prostitutes from STD's while others have speculated the indication of it bringing protection to a woman during Pregnancy because of the netlike pattern on the lower abdomen found on the mummified remains. In Either case tattoos have been found to be prominent among the female remains of the Ancient Egyptians.
Visible Body Art Is Inappropriate
Tattoos have been around for so long in our history that it seems a bit odd that they are still met with such distain in particular to a work environment, While some policy's are clearly stated with reasonable restrictions such as gang affiliations, profanity or nudity that has the potential to be deemed as offensive, But unfortunately it is entirely dependent on the single Employer weather or not to hire you based on Vanity in the way you choose to express yourself through your appearance, such as your Hair color, body piercing's and of course tattoos. But one of these is not like the others.
While a hair color or body piercing could be reversible or changeable, Once you get a tattoo it is very difficult to change or remove, It is essentially apart of you now, Should this decision be ever present to dictate the course of ones career, Would a person need to work twice as hard to get a job over someone who is half as qualified based on the bias of weather or not a business deems them an inappropriate candidate for having one or more visible tattoos?
Tattoos have come a long way from the taboo form they once were considered to be as they have become such a large part of society and pop culture, Is it time for the Work Place to drop the stigma around physical appearance being directly related to job performance, or should it continue to fit employees into an assembly line mold to ensure a proven successful strategy for the overall business?
I always wanted to have a full sleeve tattoo 3k to 5k expense. But no matter the cost, I would still be seen as an ex-con around here, lol. Thanks for an article on tattoos. Was in that subject for quite some time. Said to myself if I still like the idea in 3 years I will do it. It's been 2. :) Still into it.
I have recently seen printable customized temporary tattoos, if you wanted to essentially do a trial run of a design before getting permanently inked? (:
I wish tattoos, piercings and other body art would be seen as it is.. art! Someone spent time, thought and love on those things and as long as the tattoos are not offensive or displaying anything inappropriate, I do not see a reason to actually think badly of them in any way.. Luckily a lot of work places are not that strict about tattoos and such anymore, but i feel like there is still a lot of narrow minds to change ✿
I Completely agree, I personally find tattoos to be beautiful and I find it hard to believe there are people that don't see it and even those who still fear the site of it considering how long it's been a part of the global community. I Remember being a kid and seeing people with loads of tattoos being featured on things such as riply's believe it or not or 'Taboo' shows and wondering why these people had such a negative response to such beautiful artwork. I Recall being envious of the fact that they were like living art pieces and I couldn't even draw on my arm with a marker lol
