In the universe of memes and internet culture, the people who turn into memorable memes often end up living the circle of obscurity to overnight fame to oblivion. Rarely, do we see instances when a meme character gives it back to the internet and with such panache.

Meet Hailey Welch a.k.a. the “hawk tuah girl” from Tennessee, who turned into a sensational meme on the internet, and later pulled one of the most infamous rug pulls in crypto history, turning a trinket for herself. Soon after her memecoin $HAWK was launched, it gained an astonishing 900% rise and gained an accumulated market cap of $940 million.

However, the memecoin price crashed nearly 91% in hours after accusations started to spread among investors. As per DEXScreener data, HAWK was launched at the price of $0.005492 and it pumped to $0.04916 before crashing down.

Accusations soon started spreading over the internet that the hawk tuah girl a.k.a Welch had allegedly managed a rug pull, scooping out millions of dollars of investors in a sudden crash.

How Hawk Tuah Girl Gained Overnight Fame?
Welch became an internet celebrity after her nine-second clip went viral where she explained a sexual act through “hawk tuah” (or the sound of spitting). Her exact words were, “you gotta give ’em that hawk tuah and spit on that t***!”).
The video blew up and Welch, an otherwise 21-year-old from Belfast in Tennessee, was now the centre of attraction in the United States of America. Rolling Stones Magazine took her exclusive interview and called her “the national hero we need”.

Ahead of the 2024 US Presidential Elections, Republicans hailed her as the perfect illustration of an average Trump supporter while Democrats wished hard they could bag her.Soon enough, Welch had a merchandise of her own and started a podcast “Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch”, doing exactly what internet celebrities are supposed to do.

Hawk Tuah Girl Launches Memecoin
However, it didn’t take long for things to get exciting as on December 4, Welch announced that she was launching her meme coin called $HAWK . Using her podcast, also assured the users that this was “not just a cash grab” like other meme coins.

Haley made big promises about her meme coin such as “$HAWK isn’t just a memecoin, it’s part of the culture,” or “ it will redefine the crypto space”. Also, she promoted it on every social media platform. She successfully shifted all the attention she gained to this memecoin.

As the Hawk meme coin launched, its value surged to a market cap of $490 million. However, those who found this impressive would be shocked by what happened next. Just 20 minutes after its peak, $HAWK fell to a $60 million market cap and fell 90% in just a few hours.

Experts like Stephen Findeisen, who goes by the moniker Coffeezilla, stated this whole scenario was a rug pull. On the other hand, Welch has said her team “hasn’t sold a single token”.

After the token got dumped X user emotionally wrote, “Hi, Hailey Welch my $35,000 that I purchased of $Hawk is now $2,000 after 10 minutes of buying. I am a huge fan of Hawk Tuah but you took my life savings.”
