I just went through the the sobering task of punching my username into Steemspectacles.com

Apparently out of 261 followers, I have 238 ghost followers, and 16 dead followers. ( I hope this just means inactive accounts and that none of them have actually past away.

I'm no MIT graduate, but that seems to leave me with about 7 followers that actually interact with my account.

At this point, it would be easy to be discouraged.

Is this platform actually about people, or is it primarily just a bunch of bots trying to find the arbitrage in buying votes and auto-curating content?

The answer...? It doesn't really matter.

Writing, photography, story telling, engaging with other human beings or whatever else floats your boat are all valuable skills and deeply satisfying.

Hitting the post button after having the words flow from brain to keyboard in just the right way has left me smiling on more than one occasion. So have the interactions I've had with people in the comments of their posts. The community in @teamaustralia also appears to be very real!

It's easy to get caught up it analytics, statistics, followers, upvotes and the Steem price... but if you follow your passion and focus on cultivating your skills for your own enjoyment, both YOU and Steemit will be far better off!

Shawn Achor's "The Happiness Advantage" taught me the power of gratitude
Let's spread some across Steemit! If you want to comment but don't know what to say, just tell me 3 things you’re grateful for today and why. If you’re struggling to come up with ideas try:

  • Something temporary (your coffee, the sunshine)
  • A person
  • An object

Recent double blind placebo controlled studies have shown following @lifeofryan also greatly increases happiness :)

Today I'm grafeful for:

  • The spectacular weirdos that make DarkMofo happen (https://darkmofo.net.au/)
  • The comforting thought of my upcoming drive through the california desert after battling with this Hobart winter.
  • The brilliant minds who first decided that fermenting grapes was a bloody brilliant idea.
