Starting Afresh

Hey guys, I know I haven't been very active the past few weeks, this is because my computer had a major breakdown and I couldn't continue my digital drawings :( However, now it's back up and running and I will try my bestest for steem.
This is actually something I finished before my computer disaster, but I've decided to save it for when I start up again.

I took inspiration from one of the four characters from the hit indie game, Doki Doki Literature Club, which is Yuri. The cute and ditzy front the game portrays for you at first may seem misleading, but it is definitely a game to check out if you are into psychological horror and "out of the box" gameplay.

I start with cleaning up the base sketches I make until I have crisp and clean lineart. That is the hardest part of drawing imo because you need to have precision and NO shaky hands throughout the process.

Then I add in the base colours to shade on.

I shade the drawing using the cut layer feature. This prevents messing up your art with sloppy colouring. I also add in the glitches(bit of foreshadowing here haha)

Finally, I change the tone of the drawing like darken the contrasts and brighten the eyes to increase spooooky mood. I tried to go for an unnerving, disturbing artstyle for this one. I add the reflective gradient at the end so it seems like she's pushing against the screen of whatever gadget you are using, trying to get to her one true love hehehe

I started drawing her right after finishing the game cus I feel that she is a really cool, complex character that will be fun to draw, and I was right. Although I am still really new to the whole digital art thingamajig, I hope to start developing my own artstyle in the long run.

P.S: You can get this game for FREE; Doki Doki Literature Club by Dan Salvato. It starts off as a sort of cute visual novel dating sim, but as you continue, things slowly start the to unravel until the turning point, where you're in for a ride. It is really an experience going through this game, I don't recommend playing this game at night though hehe ;)
