Introducing EMPOWER - a cure to the slow demand for renewable energy adoption among the general public

in #teammalaysia6 years ago (edited)

Traditional versus clean renewable energy.

Imagine a button that allows you to switch your electricity supply from traditional fossil fuel based sources to 100% "sweet", clean, Earth-friendly, renewable electricity.

If there were no differences in costs, would you make the switch?

I am a firm believer that there are a lot of people who inherently desire to do good and protect our planet Earth when given the capability and the choice to do so.

Thus, I am happy to present to you EMPOWER.

EMPOWER is a blockchain database designed to support the generation AND consumption of electricity from renewable sources using cryptocurrency rewards.

Here are 5 things EMPOWER can do for you once the platform is created:

  1. For the first time ever, you will have the choice to buy clean renewable electricity instead of traditional fossil-fuel based electricity.

  2. EMPOWER shall be the first platform in the world designed to reward YOU for making that simple yet definitive conscious choice of consuming renewable energy for your electricity needs.

  3. If you are a renewable energy producer, EMPOWER is our attempt to help you shorten the time it takes to recover your set up costs.

  4. If you cannot afford a renewable energy system at home, EMPOWER is designed to help you raise enough capital to build your own, technically for free via accumulating cryptocurrency rewards. Alternatively, if you cannot wait...

  5. EMPOWER provides you the option to empower others by vesting your accumulated rewards into their projects. Thus you can choose to help your family, close friends, favorite charity, community home or rural village to build their renewable energy systems and have a share in the cryptocurrency rewards they earn from their generation.

This document outlines a vision for a blockchain database that attempts to help make renewable our main source of electricity within this lifetime.

I feel a great sense of joy and immense fulfillment to publish it today, 30th May 2018, thanks to my Steemit family members @littlenewthings, @karinzdailygrind, @orangila and @perennial who constantly kept me accountable.

It literally is a document 12-years in the making. And there are a great many people and events I am grateful for that has helped, directly and indirectly, to form this document.

I look forward to seeing this document evolve as we develop the protocol, the platform and take in the feedback from you, the global community!

Please resteem or leave me a comment what do you think about this project. Tell me:

  • What do you think works well

  • What do you think won't work well

Hi, my name is Jason aka @buzz.lightyear. I envision a future where renewable energy is our main source of electricity in this lifetime; reducing the largest contributor of carbon emissions by 90% and bringing our global temperatures back to its natural balance.

I believe that this is no easy task but it is achievable with your support.

I am developing an open blockchain that incentivises both producers and consumers of renewable energy and am looking to collaborate with brilliant minds who share this vision so that we can create a future where it just makes sense to go 100% renewable, visit your local store, buy some latest tech and generate energy for your own use and for others.

Great efforts . Putting it down in writing will kick kff a series of tasks which will surely help you reach the end goals. Cheers

Thanks @bitrocker2020. I'd like to collect some of your thoughts.

Hey! Congratulations on completing your white paper! And from here....it is Infinity and Beyond! All the best Jason.

I think this will provide to people the incentive to start using renewable energy, reduce non-renewable energy usage and ultimately reduce the global carbon footprint for energy. Well done!

Thanks @tzeyl. I'd like to collect some of your thoughts.

Done. Wish you good luck :)

Awesome!!

I'm very excited about renewable decentralized energy production for some time now, though at a more "armchair"/"sideline" level.

Energy has always been so centralized and control in the hands of the elites and its about time it goes back to the hands of the customer..

On the topic of tokenizing the renewable energy industry, I heard about a similar project that is trying something similar, PowerLedger. Do you have any comments on what they're doing?

Power Ledger is an amazing project with a great team who has recently earned one of the finalist spots for Richard Branson's Xtreme Tech Challenge.

Power Ledger is creating one of the first platforms to allow people to buy and sell electricity with each other without needing a middleman like TNB (retailer). I have written a short article about Power Ledger before. You can read it here.

However, I foresee a huge challenge ahead is this:

What is your strategy to get people to participate?

  1. Electricity producers would always want to sell at the highest possible rate. If you do not find the rate attractive enough, you likely won't produce electricity.
  2. Electricity consumers would always want to buy electricity at the cheapest rate possible. My experience has been so long as the price for "clean electricity" is more than what the general public currently pays, they will reject it.

That is why I am creating EMPOWER; an incentive-based system beyond platforms. My hope is to complement Power Ledger's efforts.

So long as you are producing renewable electricity, you should be rewarded.
So long as you are consuming renewable electricity, you should also be rewarded.

Thanks for the deep insight! Love to see how this will pan out!

This is really something @buzz.lightyear. I do believe that sustainable energy (solar power for being one of it) is the future. However, we always wait for the government and corporations to realize that for us. I guess, it is the time that we make things happen with our own hand. Will write something about your whitepaper too!

Btw, @cklai is also interested in this. Tagging him for easier reference :)

Thanks @kimzwarch.

You are very correct. Thanks in advance!
I look forward to reading your thoughts on this whitepaper.
Meanwhile, would you mind taking this quick survey please?
It takes only about a minute.

Sure thing! Mana tau we can work together in future.

This is a great project @buzz.lightyear! So far, there is little disruption in the energy industry of Malaysia and we definitely need some competition to get government incentify the industry for private players to come in. We look forward to your realization of the project!

Keep it up and Steem on!

Sincerely from,

@archisteem and team

Thanks @archisteem!
I agree. There is little disruption also because Malaysia is a highly regulated, centralised and controlled energy market. I hope I can convince the local regulators to support this project when I meet them.

Meanwhile, would you mind taking this quick survey please?
It takes only about a minute.

Most welcome @buzz.lightyear.

Definitely will help with your survey.

Thanks @joannewong!

I love your enthuasiasm for this project.
Your cheerleading is the kind of renewable energy this project needs also!

Would you mind also taking this quick survey please?
It only thanks a minute to complete. Thanks!

Hopefully the new gov will approve.

It is my hope too. Malaysia already has 10,000 homes, schools, charity and community centers producing solar electricity on their rooftops.

My wish is to reward them first.
