RM5,000 raised in less than 5 days, using "fake" money?

in #teammalaysia7 years ago

This is a midweek update of the an earlier post we did on Saturday, 9th December.

You can read the original post here, but the TL:DR edition is simple:

  • On Wednesday, @caroljoseph showed me and @bitrocker2020 an article covering four homes in Klang Valley that needed some help
  • @bitrocker2020 and I went over on Friday to check out the place, meet the kids, talk to the peeps who run the homes
  • I wrote a post about it and set our intention to raise USD500 for the home

So now it’s 4 days plus in, and I would like to give all the 163 supporters (upvoters), a couple of Steem donors (thank you thank you thank you), a very big thank you!

Great job #teammalaysia!

Drumroll please….

Oh wait, I already mention the amount we raised in the title (duh).

Yup, you read it right, we raised about RM5,000!

From the post itself, as of 8.23pm 12th December 2017, we’ve got:

The $188.33 has a pending payout for 4 more days (woot!), and 35% of it will be roughly $66, which according to Coingecko, is about RM3164.

Combine that with the 300 Steem donations we got, which exchanges to about MYR2000, and #boom! We got the RM5,000.

Not stopping, we’re still reaching out to more people for upvotes.

Oooooh wait… I can hear some skeptics already.

But… that not real money!

But… it’s only by upvoting!

But… it’s not legal, right?!?!

And @bitrocker2020, @karinzdailygrind and my personal favourite…

But… but… but… where the money comes from?!

Frankly, as much as I have the time to answer those questions, I certainly won’t justify it.

But what I do know is this: Come 5am, Thursday 21st December, we (@bitrocker2020, @caroljoseph, @karinzdailygrind, @zord189, @joannewong, @aaronleang) are heading to NSK Kuchai Lama to get the groceries and items from the wish list, and we’re heading to the homes to hand them over.

Destiny Starting Homes Wishlist:

  1. 5 ceiling fans
  2. 3 blenders
  3. 2 hot water airport
  4. Toileries
    • shampoo
    • talcum
    • deoderant
    • sanitary pad
    • colgate (toothpaste)
    • toothbrushes
    • baby bath
    • shower gel
    • dettols

You may say it’s “fake” money, but the ceiling fans, the water heaters, the blenders, the toiletries and groceries, it sure will feel real to those who really needed it.

And we’re gonna document the journey, so that we can replicate the process, and help more homes. We’re excited to use the power of Steemit, along with the passion of a few people not to just give the homes some “fish”, we’re going to teach them how to “fish” too. Stay tune for that, but if you think you want to help out too, leave a comment below.

A few days ago, I wrote about the vision of a world without charities. And with this gang (beta name Steeming Love), and Steemit as the enabler, I know we’re one step closer to creating that world.

The word “charity”?

It’s gonna be removed from the dictionary in the next decade or so. ...
