But first, coffee: Top 5 Coffee Shops In KL

in #teammalaysia7 years ago (edited)

On weekdays it's medicinal, on weekends it recreational. I mean I even scrub in the stuff. What can I say, i'm into coffee.

If you've been to Malaysia, you'll know about Kopi, the Malaysian style coffee and a favourite in this city. I don't know much about kopi, but KL also serves up some pretty delicious western-style coffee too.  I've tried a lot of places, but they aren't all consistent. Some have incredible, instagramable decor, but just don't hit the mark when it comes to great coffee.

Here are my Top 5 Coffee Shops in KL for a western cup of joe, based on taste and consistency.

I would love to hear what your favourite places are for coffee in KL and anywhere I should try! If you're not in Malaysia, let me know where you love to get coffee where you are.

1. PULP by Papa Palheta

You can't mention coffee in KL without talking about PULP. I was a fan of their Singapore outlet before they came to KL and they really are changing the coffee game over here. Not only are they situated at the entrance of the most hipster hangout in town (APW), they also serve up some seriously decent coffee.  Whether you like your coffee iced, hot, with tasting notes, hand-brewed, with milk or without - these guys really do have every coffee lover covered. What I like about this place is they have some pretty fancy selections, but they don't push those upon you. It's minimalism done very well.
It's also a great place to work if you're working offline, because unfortunately they don't have wifi yet. More about PULP here.

They also serve 1 for 1 coffee before 9am on weekdays.. in case one wasn't enough.

2. Seven Cups

This place is totally underrated and it's one of my favourite places for coffee. It's rich in flavour, strong in caffeine and one is just enough to get you going for the day.
They do a fabulous flat white and you can add a double shot to any coffee for no extra charge.
Their outlet at Empire Damansara is minimalistic and very quiet. They also have some pretty tasty waffles, but there isn't a huge lunch menu. Loyalty cards available! Find out more about Seven Cups here.

3. Artisan Roast - TTDI

It's worth noting there are other chains called Artisan which are unrelated. This TTDI coffee house is flooded with budding entrepreneurs and cake-lovers. This place really does a great coffee and there are plenty of different brewing methods and beans available. A great place to hang out and work with a decent cup of the good stuff and also perhaps make some business connections if you're a creator.
Loyalty cards also available here and they will even hold them for you. Find out more about Artisan here.

4. Three Little Birds

Overlooking the green escape of Desa Park City, perched on a corner you'll find Three Little Birds, a healthy cafe serving some great coffee with milk alternatives. The soy-milk flat white is one of the best i've had. I love to work down here in the mornings when it's cooler, they have wifi and it's open from 8am on weekdays if you're looking for some place green to work from. Find out more about the cafe here.

5. Kopenhagen Coffee

Sitting on a stool by the window inside this black and white coffee joint, I felt transported to Europe. The guys behind this scandanavian style cafe in Mont Kiara really have created the perfect escape from the bustle of the city. They have some delicious coffee and healthy, scandanavian food options, such as smoked salmon on rye. It gets a little packed these days, but still one of my favourite spots for a seriously strong piccolo, served up in the cutest cups. This one only features at number 5 because I wouldn't necessarily go here just for coffee, but rather to experience the whole concept. Great coffee nevertheless! Find out about this hidden gem here.

I am more a tea kind of guy but can sense your passion for coffee through your post. Good reviews.

Thank you :-) Tea is equally as good!

Currently, some of my favorite varieties of coffee come out of Vietnam. The Hoi Ann Roastery is a go to in a pinch for consistent roasted arabica beans grown locally in the region. Prepared in the slow Vietnamese drip style with a tablespoon of condensed sweetened milk is my favorite at the moment. I love coffee!!

Oooooh sounds amazing! I love Vietnamese coffee!! Thanks for your comment. Appreciate it.

I had no idea about kopi or the coffee scene in Malaysia! Happy to have found your post, I'll definitely have some places to visit when I make my way across the world. 😁

You've been resteemed + followed as part of the #LadiesofSteemit initiative. Looking forward to keeping up with your posts!

Awesome! So happy to hear that :-)

I love coffee, I had to cut back on the amount I was drinking. When I did I got the coffee headaches for about a week! But now 2 cups a day max is what I drink, although you could probably walk across the surface of them they are so strong. Think treacle.

Oh just to let you know that the High protein pizza is up, I dont want to hijack your post but I couldnt think of a way to let you know.

Yeah definitely not more than a cup or two per day for me either. But I still appreciate a good one. I'm coming for that protein pizza right now.

pls make that kind of review when you're in London too. So few in here.
good post btw :)

Yes! I intend to. Glad you like it :-)

I am in Bangalore...love the coffee at Matteo Coffea!

Ooooh good to know! I'm going to be in India soon. If I make it to Bangalore i'll put this on my list.

Looks great!!
One day I will visit all these places!! :)

What is your favorite?

Awesome. Number 1 :-)

Nice sharing, next time you can try this cafe "Chocha Foodstore". You will fall in love with its charming retro interior and impeccable attention to details. With old wooden tables, exposed light bulbs and a sunny courtyard, every corner of Chocha Foodstore makes for great OOTD backgrounds. It's located at 156 Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Tue to Sun: 11am – 10pm).

Ah Yes I already reviewed it in my previous post :-) Unfortunately they don't serve coffee there.

Yeah, last time I'm having tea and lunch over there, in love with their retro environment so much, hope they will serve coffee in the future.

It's such an awesome environment! You have great taste! :-)

Yeah, thanks! :D
