Chapter 1: Spread Kindness- It’s Free
I’m Zyee. Noob in Steemit. AMA!
I thought long about whether to embark in sharing my personal thoughts on Steemit. Like many other newbies, I still struggle to understand its payout system and how the various features in the platform work. Read my previous, first-ever post about what I mean.
Eventually, I told myself, “Why not try it out? I’ve got nothing to lose. Signing-up is free.”
The only thing is, I’m not one who is usually comfortable in sharing personal experiences and allowing my personal life to be somewhat ‘exposed’ to the masses in the real (or virtual) world. DAE feel this way?
One thing I have noticed is that if you want to have many followers/subscribers in Steemit, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or any other online social platform, then you must be ready to be an open book to other people by granting your readers the following (among many other things) about yourself:
- A glimpse of your daily life- describe how it is to be YOU.
- Feel a sense of your emotional vulnerability- your happiest moments as well as your life-crushing moments.
- Know your likes and dislikes- what you are passionate about and what makes you loathe.
The process of retaining your followers or subscribers is another art form altogether.
Through this post, I reveal to you a glimpse of the untitled book about my precious life on this earth. A book which is still being written...
Chapter 1| Preamble
She is innately a quiet and shy girl who was born in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. She was then raised for a while in Iowa and Kentucky, USA before returning to Sabah to become a student at an all-girls secondary convent school. Occasionally, she wished she and her family continued staying in the USA. But looking at the sentiment that the current POTUS Donald Trump and his fellow citizens have against dreamers, perhaps Home Sweet Home Malaysia applies best for now. Currently working in one of the most integrated shipyards in the region, she heads the small yet resourceful corporate communication team there while also pursuing a MA in Communication by research mode at Universiti of Malaysia Sabah.
As a Muslim, the main existence of her being in the world is to worship God. However, this book is essentially about a young lady who is searching for the purpose (or purposes) of her existence in terms of contributing to human progress.
As long as mankind exists, human progress is inevitable.
She believes everyone has a part to play in making this world a better place to live in. In her journey of exploring this purpose, she aspires to be an advocate of volunteerism and charitable giving by actively participating in various volunteerism-based NGOs that help propel her cause for self and community advancement.
Junior Chamber International (JCI)
- If you you interested in making a difference in your local community or joining a global movement that is able to make greater impact to the world, join this global membership-based nonprofit organization of young active citizens who are dedicated to creating positive change in their communities.
Labuan Toastmasters Club (LTC)
- This is another well-known nonprofit educational organization that you should consider joining to improve your communication skills. It's mission is essentially to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment for all members to become more effective communicators and leaders. (Credit to LTC Past President, @diamondray who introduced Steemit to me and many other Labuanites!)
Labuan Volunteer Team (LVT)
- A local-based volunteer group in Labuan which aims to promote volunteerism and lend a hand to people in the community who are in need.
Through it all, she has found kindness to be the one present that each one of us can give to everybody in this world just because it's so easy to do and it's free. It is therefore the one thing that she strives to give to mankind every day in the hope that it will contribute, albeit in a small way, to a better, peaceful world.

Humans are social beings. We live better, thrive and progress through community and social settings - not by living alone. This is one of the main reasons- if not, the ultimate reason- why I joined Steemit. I can’t wait to see where this platform is going to lead us all to.
Eventhough actual human connections can truly happen only IRL and F2F, let’s embrace Steemit and any other social platforms that promote the spirit of togetherness and human connectivity for a positive cause and to spread kindness.
Steem on. Be kind. God bless.
P/S: Happy Federal Territory Day to fellow Malaysians in the Federal Territories.
Congrats on taking the jump! Welcome!
Thank you @samuel-swinton for the warm welcome. It's indeed a big jump! And thank you for introducing @rainbowllama! I applaude your initiative to reach out and be very hospitable to the new people in Steemit. Keep up the positive encouragements to us newbies :)
Great post @zyeefdm. Enjoyed your chapter 1. Looking fwd to your next Chapter. Also you can count me in on your next volunteering work with LVT. Im more happy to lend a hand.
Till then, Steem on....
P/S : we r on the same page of not really exposing our personal to public. But why not begin in Steemit. 😊
Thanks @kulasago! Will update you if there's any upcoming volunteer works planned in Labuan. It's great that Steemit allows like-minded (& shy? Hehee) people to meet and potentially work towards a good cause IRL.
