Today in tech; HP is keylogging you, a cell phone with no features, and a NES that isn't a NES
HP is keylogging you
Keyloggers are software that track every single key you press on your keyboard. Bad for security, passwords and such. HP recently released an audio driver that is a keylogger. This was discovered by a security firm, Modzero, who issued the warning two days ago. This keylogger appears to record and dump your keypresses into an unencrypted file on your hard drive. This means anyone with physical access to your computer can see everything you've done, be it passwords, private messages or whatever else, it's there for anyone to see. Those affected are people with a Conexant audio driver for headphones, found in brand new laptops, specifically the HP elitebook, Probook, and Zbook. HP claims it was both a mistake, and that no data was leaked. They have also rolled out a patch for the keylogger, so if you have one, I'd install it.
A cell phone with no features
Funded by a kickstarter launched in 2015, Light has raised ~$415,000 to bring their minimalistic phone to life. It was designed to be used as little as possible in these days of nonstop connection and entertainment, and for the low price of $150.00 USD. So how does it work as a phone? It's a phone, with no bells and whistles. You can call and receive calls. That's it. It comes as a prepaid plan, $5.00 USD a month, with an existing phone number. Not willing to give up the bells and whistles of your normal phone, but still want this one? No problem. Light has an app to automatically forward calls from your current phone to this one. Low profile, it is the size of a credit card, can last up to 20 days on battery, and stores 10 speed dials. If you want to go minimalistic, but still want to be connected, this is the device for you.
A NES that isn't a NES
Want to relive the old days when you were a kid? Play all the classics again? Well, with the Hyperkin RetroN 1, you can. Costing $40.00 USD, the RetroN can play every NES game made. Simply insert the cartridge (US or EUR only, Japanese cartridges don't work), and play. Sounds neat right? It gets a better. The RetroN 1 upscales your games from 4:3 to 16:9 so no black bars, its controller has a 10 foot long cable, and it comes with a 3 foot HDMI cable. No games included, but NES games are cheap. Hyperkin says the console will launch on May 25th.
