5 Pieces of Tech That Are Exciting

in #technology8 years ago

Hey steemit, I've got a bunch of cool gadgets I've been keeping my eye on lately, so here is the top five in my opinion.

The Here One
These are the latest in terms of earbuds right now. Wireless, smart, they can handle near everything from making your world quieter, or louder, to translating a foreign language in real time. They listen to the world around you and adjust the volume to your preference, they are great for phone calls, wonderful sound quality, and they even have filters for specific sounds like airplanes, and crowds. But there are two major downsides. One is the $300 dollar pricetag. As a poor student, thats a bit too much for me to impulse buy. Still, you get what you pay for. The second, and biggest downside is the battery life. These earbuds will not last you all day, lasting just two hours instead. You can get three full charges out of the case itself, so theoretically eight hours entirely. Just with gaps. Despite that, I plan on getting these as soon as I have money.

HTC Vive
Not exactly new in terms of tech, I know, I know. Still, I think it deserves another spotlight. The HTC Vive is a VR headset. That means you plop it on your head, boot up a game, and BAM, you're in a new world, a virtual reality, so to speak. It comes with two sensors, lighthouses, and two controllers. You can walk around in this world with the sensors watching you, and you can interact with everything the developers thought of with the controllers. While locomotion remains an unsolved issue in many cases, either being given the cop out of teleportation, or the motion sickness inducing touchpad movement, there are many inbetweens that are both creative and work well. This is tech that was dreamed about in science fiction, and its finally here. This is my absolute must buy, even if it costs $800 dollars. Also you need a really good PC to run one.

The Bacon Express
Are you a fan of bacon? Of course you are. Well, this is a pretty interesting product. A toaster for bacon basically. Not a whole lot to explain. Holds six slices of bacon, stores grease in easy to remove container. Apparently, its not perfect, but its a much better solution than the whole, splatter grease everywhere via a pan, idea. I like it at least. Cost is $40.

An iGlucoseTracker
Tim Cook has been cooking up a glucose tester that constantly tells you your blood sugar level. It is in testing right now and may be added to the iWatch if it works well enough. It is another novel use of wearable tech, and one that could help save lives. I'm not a huge apple fan, but it sounds like they have some interesting stuff going on.

The Smart Pillow
In a world with smart phones, smart watches, smart earbuds, smart homes, and smart engineers making all those things, we could use some more smart devices. The Sunrise Smart Pillow aims to do this, by tracking your sleep patterns and waking you up when you're sleeping lightest by simulating the gradual increase of light of a sunrise. It plays music as an alarm if the bright lights don't wake you up. It even tracks your sleep habits. After all, what's one more smart thing?

*I feel that I should add the disclaimer that lately I've been seeing a lot of kickstarters and indiegogos just run off with the money. Be hesitant in who you support.
