Are iPhones Going To Be Slower ? Apple Admits.

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

There is no doubt that iPhones have always been great devices. They are simply different than other phones not because of its premium look but because of the fact that they are extremely fast due to their amazing RAM management and great operating system, the "iOS".
Lately there have been news circling around the internet about Apple and their way of slowing iPhones just to compromise with the durability of the battery.

How did all of this start?

Everything began with a Reddit post and continued with Apple admitting that they are doing this for a reason.John Poole, founder of Primate Labs and Geekbench developer, seized on this hypothesis, and pulled together and compared data from the performance testing Geekbench had done on users’ iPhone 6s and 7 devices. They tested more than 100 000 iPhone devices with different versions of the operating system "iOS" . What they noticed is that the comparison from devices with iOS versions 10.2.0, which had the so called "shutdown" bug, and devices with versions 10.2.1 in which they fixed the shutdown bug , was a bit weird. The devices literally started slowing down on 10.2.1 ( the iOS version with the fix ) .

Whats the reason for that ? Why did Apple do that ?

What the research / analysis showed is that Apple limited the processor from overtaxing the battery while on the other end they made the devices run slower. The analysis got a lot of attention so there had to be answer from the company itself.

Apple's answer

"Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components."

"Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future."

Conclusion : Is this a good move from Apple ?

What Apple did with the fix to many people is not acceptable because of the fact that older devices are going to become more and more sluggish. The real question is.. What if Apple did the best thing possible to fix the issue that the users had without the intention of making people buy new Apple phones ?

My opinion:

Apple has a really good reputation as a company and the devices they create have always been great. If it stays like they stated "smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. " then we should be able to use Apple devices without worrying too much but with time we are going to see if the phones are going to get slower and slower and if that happens then Apple has to do something about it.

Thank you for reading . I really appreciate the support that I'm getting. Feedback is always appreciated.Stay tuned for more posts = )

You know there is actual action people can take against this, DON'T BUY APPLE I PHONES ANYMORE IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS WAY OF DOING BUSINESS. Otherwise this is not relevant to complain about. You get EVERYTHING YOU PAY FOR with your purchase in a free market.

I've always been an Apple fan but I don't know what to say on the fact that they have to slow phones in order for them to last longer.Hopefully they are going to change that ? What do you think ?

You probably have a better perspective here, I never owned one. I just don't like that there has to be a tirade in the national media markets about this, everyone forgets, and no consequences are rendered. In my opinion the best way to render a vote is to buy or not buy on an individual basis. Good post this is a very important topic.

There are hardcore Apple fans out there which don't really care about a thing and just buy because of the reputation that Apple has and the premium look of the phone. I haven't had an apple device myself but I've used my friend's iPhones, why I fell in love with Apple is because of the operating system they have and the RAM management. Now I can't imagine how its gonna be if you buy an Apple device and you hold it for 2-3 years, then it becomes slower and slower
