Artificial Intelligence now capable of booking things for you, domination of entire human race still out of reach, for now.

Take two minutes out of your day to watch this video.

Then go and check the level of provisions in your apocalyptic bomb shelter.

What do you mean you don’t have one? Well how else will you survive in the post-human era?

I must admit I was floored by this video, AI capable of duping real humans was (I expected) still some years away.

Having to fear for your life is probably some way off, but let’s go all Black Mirror and take a look at one possible progression of this technology.

Identity theft
Imagine this scenario:

  1. Hundreds of hours of your recorded phone conversations are sold by an unscrupulous phone provider to a third party for a profit.
  2. Third party redistributes information (or is hacked).
  3. Hackers train a bot to mimic your mannerisms, tone of voice etc based on this information.
  4. Bot is used to impersonate you to extract any possible financial information from friends and family.
  5. Hackers drain their accounts, you get the blame.

Think about this, a world where we could no longer trust a voice on the end of the phone. How would communication evolve to combat this threat?

Increasingly we are living in a world where our private information is a commodity to be monetised. What’s worse is most of this voluntary, we give up our information for the sake of increased convenience. We are self selecting ourselves into our own version of the matrix.

Now that’s very dystopian and I promise I’m not a conspiracy nut, but an eventuality like that would start with small steps like this.

This technology was made to save us the hassle of booking our own restaurants and haircuts, but AI has massive potential repercussions, is this all worth it?

What are your concerns about rapidly advancing AI technology? On the flip side, what benefits are you looking forward to?

I for one welcome our new robot overlords.

Sort:

This is insane...AI thinking real time with unpredictable humans is incredible. Once they figure out their battery is their heart...we are fucked lol

Two sides of a coin, every technological breakthrough to aid humanity always has repercussions. When humans are able to conveniently produce fire, a lot of good things came such as cooking and tons of other stuff on the other side of the coin fire is also being used in destruction, the flamethrower was widely spread and used during world war II by humans against humans. A sword can be wielded to protect someone's life and at the same time can be wielded with evil intent to murder. The Internet is undeniably aided humanity, on the other hand, it has also paved the way to commit crime conveniently as well. Artificial Intelligence is super cool on the other side of the coin it can also be scary. I agree with you, my concern is our private information not being private anymore since it is being sold as commodity, on the flip side artificial intelligence will surely bring a lot of advantages to humanity such as better health care, professional productivity since AI will aid you to multi-task, rapid growth in technology for continuous improvement of existing systems, convenience obviously, safety and I am sure there is a lot more to think of.

I would upvote this comment twice if I could, thanks for a well thought out and nuanced analysis!

Your welcome, I find your post very interesting to read, so I digested it.

I can see why google would do this - to collect more data. But its still disturbing... makes me wonder if there will be jobs for humans to do in the future...

Well that’s a great point, what is happening to the jobs that are already being displaced by robots, more profits go to the CEO.

Perhaps one day they will be able to automate CEOs? Or politicians? Imagine a world where the 'politicians' can't be bought and base all their decisions on logic, reason, and scientific evidence! Not that I think any politician would stand by and watch their jobs be automated... but one can dream!

Not so dangerous. Simple law (like Asimov's) demands that Bots reveal themselves as Bots, i.e., must be truthful when asked. We have con artists now who are as dangerous as anything this poses and we survive.

I totally lost it when the AI starting conversing with the women! The end is near people!

So, what we are already living in a simulation, this is just another layer of that
