The new battery cell model 2170

If you are a fun of electric vehicle , then you must here about the new EV that are out in 2017 and that all the new model of many companies have EV whit longer range in 1 charge.

The Tesla Motors and Panasonic , got together and made the new cell coled 2170 that will be produced in the Tesla Motors gigafactory in USA.

The model 2170 is the new big brother of the common battery 18650 that you can find it in EV (Tesla), mobile, portable cell phone chargers ... etc.

The name of the new battery, 2170, it's come from the new dimensions that it has : 21mm by 70mm. It is like 15% bigger then the old brother 18650.

Even it is like just a little bigger then 18650, this new cell it contain like double the amount of energy. The 18650 can storage between 2000mA and 3300mA, but the new cell 2170 can storage from 5500mA to 6000mA. Whit only 15% larger in volume, it can double the storage capacity.

The first EV that will use this new cell is the Model 3 from Tesla Motors, that already start in production by the time I write this article.

Making this new cell in the gigafactory from Tesla Motors whit the Model 3 , will reduce the cost of it whit 40% the importing it from over ocean. This decision will make the Tesla motors product cut the costs whit the batteries an influence the market in a better way for the end consumer.

For now this new cell will be use to power the Tesla Motors cars and wall power bank, but I really hope that in the future this types of cells will be find in the shops too for people to bye them.
