Famous Torrent site steals CPU power for mining - this stops now.

in #technology7 years ago

According to engaged, The Pirate Bay have experimented with monero mining on their website.

Visitors to The Pirate Bay have discovered JavaScript code in the website that 'borrows' your processor for the sake of mining Monero digital coins.

To be clear, I think that borrowing visitors CPU for a little mining is just fine, IF you fully disclose the fact that you are doing that, and gives the option to turn this off.

But to simply just take CPU power without telling people - even for just testing it out - is never okay, and is likely to give crypto a bad name.

Mining on websites can be a great alternative to ads, but don't be an asshole, tell people exactly what is going on. IF you want to mine on your own website you can see this informative video from Crypto Gordo.

This is interesting. I didn't know monero could be mined this way. Definitely going to try it out.
