Batteries That Fully Charge In Under 10 Minutes

The days of super quick battery charging may be in our near future if a set of advances by an Israeli research firm holds true. StoreDot, a leading company in battery tech research claims it has been able to recharge an electric scooter in only five minutes. It further claims that recent breakthroughs will offer recharges to electric automobiles in under ten minutes and that its technology will find direct application in consumer electronics, especially in mobile computing devices.

StoreDot says that its technology is based on a germanium and silicon and a number of organic compounds as opposed to lithium-ion. And the new batteries are not plagued by the dangers inherent in lithium-ion usage, i.e., bursting into flames and exploding.

So naturally the next question is when can we expect to see this battery tech come to market? Well, with the backing with the likes of Daimler and Samsung, the company intents to have products for the consumer space by 2020 and car batteries in the market by as early as 2023.

The information comes courteously of an article by Ryan Browne of CNBC.com.
