What to do with Raspberry Pi. Looking for input or your projects.
So I have acquired a Raspberry Pi and I know I've had all sorts of ideas with one of these in the past but I am at a lose on what to do with it. I currently am accessing it with ssh to download some of my favorite Debian applications. I does have Raspian installed and running but so far I am not truly enjoying it. I have hooked it up to hdmi but the gui screen is going off the screen in every direction. I tried using tvservice in terminal command to fix the issue with no success. I do also have this screen that plugs into the 40pin output.
The screen is ok. It is touchscreen but the os has bad functionality with touchscreen. So for now I've just been using ssh server with x forwarding to mess around with it.
I find that it does not play videos well at all. It does do audio just fine but to be honest the cheap smartphones I have make way better mp3 players than the Raspberry. I know its uses are broad but I guess I could use some advice and little reminders to what those are.
So if you have any good ideas or have done simple projects using Raspberry Pi I would greatly appreciate some input and maybe so links to your own projects.

I use one of my PIs as a backup for my OpenBazaar store. I have it set up to do an
rsync
on my store's VPS. If I ever need to switch it for some reason, I can just run a few commands to enable the PI.I also use a PI to run a Dash Master Node. That PI also has
piston
so I can use it to run whatever script I need. Both PIs have
mosh-server
so that my shell sessions resume whenever my laptop resumes from sleeping. That way I don't have to constantly log back in.I also run
tmux
(multiplexor) from inside themosh
session so if I ever lose mymosh
session, I can just reestablish a new session and pick up where I left off.So I guess it's a little mundane. My PIs are basically just for
ssh
access. :DI have an idea for something a little more
diy
. I want to set up a PI with a camera, looking at the road. I want to make it capture images of cars that go by and send them through a script to identify the cars using statistics. When it identifies a car, I'll have it run scripts to announce when certain people arrive.I love my little Pi , its not in use right now but I used it as a security camera with an old webcam for a while, I also used it to run asics too. Would love to eventually get into some home automation stuff using this :)
yea i think using it with an audrino would be a good use for it
maybe have it hooked up in bedroom and use ssh to make the audrino turn lights on or off maybe if i use it to just turn on the coffee maker and play some music so when i come downstairs in the morning i'm good to go
I did actually install noobs on it so I can test out and see what uses it is commonly used for and to see how it performs at different tasks. I guess I'm noob when it comes to Raspberry Pi so it will take me a little bit I think. Plus there is probably going to be some extra hardware I will need when I truly find how it will improve my life. I stumbled upon this deal pretty much out of nowhere but at least when I need it for something I will have it. Definitely can fill its niche somewhere in my life though.
