Face Scanner Technology Can Detect Rare Diseases
A group of scientists utilize facial recognition technology to detect rare diseases. Scientists from the National Human Genome Research Institute developed a face scanning method that can diagnose whether there is an anomalous genetic condition in the patient.
This condition is commonly known as DiGeorge Syndrome. This rare disease is caused by the absence of a number of chromosomes in the body. As a result, patients suffering from this disease have the potential to experience complications of acute illness.
Presented genetic expert National Human Genome Research, Paul Kruszka, this disease can be experienced by all people of all ages.
"In general, DiGeorge is only experienced by non-Causes descendants, but it is often also experienced by African, Asian and Latin American descent," explains Kruszka.
This face scanning technology is claimed to be 96 percent accurate in diagnosing the patient's condition. In fact, it can also detect Down Syndrome.
This is not the first time the technology can be used to detect the disease. Previously, Virtual Reality technology (VR) can also examine cancer and tumor.
Using a VR Headset, doctors can see a biopsy of a cancer or tumor with sodium polyacrylate, whose size will be increased by about 100 times.
Afterwards, the surgical team will analyze from the outside and inside, and they will not only see what tumors can be made, but also create 3D images based on the biopsy tissue that doctors witnessed in VR applications.
That way, 3D images of tumors that can be seen in VR applications can also display some data about tumor functions and cells, how they can interact, to what kind of layout.
