A week in Silicon Valley - #Day 3, Google + Tony Seba + IDEO

in #technology7 years ago

Next up on our Silicon Valley tech adventure was the one and only Tony Seba. If you haven't heard about him, he has quite the colorful CV: world-renowned author, Stanford lecturer, thought leader, speaker, and entrepreneur. We were lucky enough to get a sit-down with him in between his busy schedule to talk about future technology, and especially the future of transportation.

He's done numerous public talks on this, the most recent being: https://youtu.be/2b3ttqYDwF0 - Check it out, it has nearly 300k views on Youtube.
Also, if you're a technologist, I highly recommend watching it as it reveals some very intriguing insights as to how we will all work and commicate in the future. One of the key-takeaways that I walked away with was that by 2022, digital technology platforms + new business models + advances in the battery and solar industries will completely shift the game for transportation. People will no longer have the economic incentive to own a car, and will instead use apps and ride-sharing platforms to get from A to B. If he's right remains to be seen, but a future with fewer cars sounds great to me :-)

Next up, Google. This place is anything but boring. If you have ever been near the Google HQ, you know there are plenty of colorful bicycles spread across the entire complex - we just had to test them out :)

Going nowhere, fast

Our last visit was to the renowned design bureau IDEO where we got a great introduction into some of their work methodology and culture. Perhaps you remember the original Apple mouse? That came from IDEOs designers. They are also the company who founded the world-famous design-thinking framework - the international buzz-word of 2016.

That's it for now - any tips from Steemers about technology companies in Silicon Valley we need to check out?
