TED Talk: Benjamin Zander on music and passion

in #ted7 years ago

Every last Sunday of each month I used to post a TED Talk conference video on my Romanian written blog.

It was a good habit, as a routine imposed by myself in order to disrupt a little the busy schedule that I had back then.

When you get too deep into some projects you forget to relax your mind and this was a relaxing time as I could not post something that I don’t know about and seen, so I’ve used to watch some of them just because it needed to be posted.

I will start sharing one here every last Sunday of each month now. And, starting today with the (still) coolest and complex talk so far (ok, there are probably to many now to watch and know about, but this is still a classic and it’s almost 10 years old) —  Benjamin Zander on music and passion.

It matters the least that he’s an orchestra conductor or that he is involved in the classical music world. He could be anything, from a mechanic or maintenance guy to an IT geek or doctor. It’s his passion that makes him a good teacher, even more, a Guidance.

We need to be more passionate about what we do.

First thing, we need to do things that we are passionate about. It’s the only way we can perform at our best and stay interested in the domain for a longer period of time. Routine and boredness come in everything we do but when it’s the passion, we can overcome this and produce better outcomes. This results in a better world for everybody.

When you don’t have what you like, you better like what you have

So goes an Indian proverb. It’s not the case anymore, for the majority of the world’s inhabitants. Interesting times we live in. As soon as we understand this, and all the opportunities out there, then we are on the right path.

Every one of us should be able to do a presentation like this about our line of work.

Every one of us should be able to inspire as much as he does. It sounds and looks like an MLM/Pyramid scheme but I think this is the way it supposed to go. When you can make a 5-year-old understand your business, then you become a Master of that.

Enjoy this at least as much as I did watch it for the third time. Let me know what you thought of it in a reply. Also, a love-green and a share could work!

Wake up! It’s culture!!!

PS — If you do the exercise he suggests in min. 12, you might feel like in a Chris Nolan movie, specially Interstellar
