Bonds - An Entry to @tpkidkai's "Tellatale" Contest

Howdy folks! It's been a while since I last posted, a friend of mine runs a contest and what kind of friend would I be if I wouldn't be joining his contest. You can check out the details of the contest here. Don't worry folks, the link will not lead you to a phishing site, it leads to the contest post, if it doesn't you can report me to @steemcleaners and have them flag my reputation to oblivion.

So, without further ado here's my entry for "chapter 1 category", I hope you folks like it.

Bonds - Chapter 1

A sea of fire engulfs the battle field. What was once a peaceful meadow is now like an executioner's paradise. Countless corpse of fallen warriors litter around, fire everywhere, loud wails and soft moans can be heard from civilians and warriors alike. The scenery was something only depicted on fairy tales or epics. A huge winged creature flies over the plains. Its roar echoes across the entire battlefield. It almost shook the earth to it's core.

"It's going in for another swoop attack, take cover!!" yelled a footman from somewhere.

Its location can't be certain as the ashes covered the entire plain like a blanket. Mid-day turned into abyssal darkness due to the thick smoke and ashes. Smell of rotting, burning flesh could make anyone feel sick on their stomach. Then the shadow of the winged creature grew bigger as it closes in on its remaining adversaries. Fire started forming from it's mouth. It's preparing to shoot out another fiery breath.

The creature is heading for the remaining handful warriors left. If it eliminate these few brave souls there will be no one else to oppose him.

With all it's might the creature let it all out, it aimed it's fire breath into the remaining warriors, "It is the end!" or so they thought. Just before the fire hit them, the highborne mages finished casting they protective spell, a wall of mana prevented the dreaded dragon's breath. These highborne are those who are conceived between a human and an elf, they are adept at the arts of magic and mana manipulation, the best mages can cast enormous offensive spells, but only a few can cast very powerful protective spells. Among these blessed with the skill to cast godly protective spell is Eleanore, a highborne who do not know her origins, her parents we're killed during the great war. She was adopted by a high ranking mage and was thought the way of the magic wielders.

"Eleanore!" Exclaimed someone from the remaining crowd. "Thank the Gods you're fine" said the familiar voice. When the smoke subsided, Eleanore tried to find where that familiar voice came from and realized it came from her childhood friend, Levi. Levi was a member of the elite knights who serve the kingdom. He's known as the "Obsidian" due to his pitch black armor, resembling a hero clad in Obsidian.

"Are you alright Levi!?" asked Eleanore, worry covers her face as she approached her childhood friend. "Where's Lucian?" she asked. But Levi couldn't meet her eyes. "He got separated from the remaining men when the dragon attacked." said Levi. Eleanore covered her mouth as she let out a worried gasp, teary eyed she tried to search for Lucian's whereabouts, but Levi was quick to stop her. "Think clearly Eleanore! He could be a goner by now, we should stick together. That's our only chance at surviving this onslaught!". Eleanore couldn't help but agree with Levi's idea.

The earth started to shake violently, tremors turned to earthquake that could bring down towers to the ground. "It landed, men be on your guard!" exclaimed Levi. Eleanore rushes to the magic wielder's ranks, prompting the group to cast another protective spell. Then it came, fiery eyes, staring at it would lead anyone into despair. A dragon towering higher than catapults, and double in size. But a hundred times in destructive power.

The mages finished casting their protective spell, hoping it could stop the dragon's next barrage of attacks, the dragon waved it's massive tail trying to finish the crown in one smash, but the only damage it could make was to destroy the mana barrier. "Again!" Eleanore exclaimed worriedly, but the mages couldn't seem to finish their spell before the dragon prepared for another attack. "We're doomed! Lucian, help us!" tears ran through Eleanore's rosy cheeks as she accepts their fate.

Then suddenly a loud roar came from somewhere else, not too far from the surviving crowd. Confused and disarrayed, the warriors and mages looked at each other, it did not came from the dragon that's about too send them to their demise. It came from behind the dragon itself. Even the dragon's action was halted by the thunderous roar.

"Oh Gods! So there are more than one dragon here!?" a frightened shriek came from the crowd. Then just as they thought they're doomed the black dragon came about and started to turn it's attention back to the crowd. It was about to crush them with it's enormous tail when a golden dragon seemed to tackle it from the side away from the crowd. Loud cries and roars could be heard but nothing can be seen because of the cloud of dust while the 2 creatures are fighting.

"Is it... Is that golden dragon helping us!?" Levi asked while still confused and dumbfounded.

As the cloud starts to settle down, they can still hear thunderous roars, but the trembling seemed to subside. When they see the two creatures fighting, they we're shocked, the golden dragon was bleeding from what seems to be a bite on it's neck, the wound seems fatal, but it seems to have pinned down the black dragon to the ground. While the crowd was still confused, Eleanore seems to mutter something absentmindedly. "Kill it..." she said. "Kill us using your remaining mana... Eleanore".

Confused at his friend, Levi shook Eleanore like trying to wake her up from a trance. "Eleanore! What are you talking about!?", "Who are you talking to?", then Eleanore snapped out of the trance and looked at Levi with worried eyes. "It talked to me..." she said. "Levi the golden dragon talked to me... it knows my name.", "It's telling me to kill him, together with that black dragon. But... it feels like I know that voice.".

Levi hurriedly assembled all the remaining survivors, warriors and mages alike, he commanded the man to pour out their remaining life force and channel them into the mages, so they can use it summon their mightiest offensive spell. Although hesitant, Eleanore joined the ranks and started chanting. Just before she could unleash the finishing blow another communication was made between the golden dragon and her. *"Stay alive Eleanore, good bye..."

Then from the sky came a blinding light, an enormous energy came down and pierced the two creatures. Both fell nearly lifeless to the ground.

"Lucian.." muffled Eleanore as hot tears flows down like river, while rushing to the dragon which are nearly at death's door.

The golden dragon started to shrink and transform to what seem to be a form of a man, the crimson red gem still beating and glowing faintly in the middle of his chest. Lucian, although nearly dead still managed a smile on his lips as he sees Eleanore and Levi rushing towards him. "They're safe", he said as he fainted.

Eleanore quickly cast the strongest healing spell she could invoke, chanting hastily, lips feverish, time is against her, so she must be quick or her beloved will die. And like a miracle, all of Lucian's damage and wounds started healing, the gem seemed to be more lively and brighter in color. Then Lucian opened his eyes and saw his love crying her eyes out for her beloved that almost perished.

While Levi stands at a distance, watching the two, he felt a void inside of him, he's happy that Eleanore was relieved, and also kind of sad because her eyes are still fixated on the same person, and nothing has changed.

"I know what exactly it is that you want..."

An ominous voice came ringing into Levi's head...
