If you do happen to come back to Thailand at any point, i would suggest perhaps not going to the pre-defined tourist destinations of Phuket, Samui, Patpong (can't believe someone suggested that to you), Pattaya etc. All of those places have massive red-light districts and of course that is the most noticeable part of tourism there. Prostitution is everywhere in this country and very little of it is actually geared towards foreigners (hard to believe, but true.) I think if you do come back you need to look towards small island communities such as Koh Chang, Koh Phayam, Koh Jum, Phi Phi etc....maybe even some jungle destinations such as Khao Sok in order to escape the dark underbelly of this country. It is there, but as in pretty much all of of South East Asia, when in the major tourist destinations prozzies are very noticeable, but it actually is a very small part of what goes on here. This is not specific to Thailand is what i am trying to say.... except for the ladyboys, I'm pretty sure that is a Thai exclusive :)
