Pressure to succeed
Have we turned the corner on pressuring success?
First we have to see How do we determine success.
If we give every body a participation award will that discount the amount of natural skill or ability?
Should we make equal each person by their effort given in each event or aspiration?
This has been the new way of thinking, we seem to be cautious to an individuals self esteem by walking on egg shell of sorts so allow everyone to think that they can do or be anything if they work hard and give it all there effort.
It seems this outlook is projecting unrealistic expectations when setting goals in life and career aspirations.
We are all perfectly imperfect, to be pressured to succeed in an unrealistic way to ones ability is setting one up for disappointment.
This can can high rates of depression, contentment towards oneself, an the overwhelming feeling of failure.
As a society we should promote ones individual achievements in whatever areas they excel or more importantly, where the individual is showing a profound interest in themselves.
We should recognize and urge an individuals interest however help establish realistic expectations.
This is not to discourage or lower an I individuals self esteem which can ruin or change ones confidence in their own abilities.
Done the right way will help build selfseteem and set areas of opportunity, hurdles to be overcome not road blocks.
An example is someone that is 5 feet tall, with poor coordination but have a love of playing basketball. Suppose they are wanting to be a professional basketball player.
Now just telling them they can do anything they can set their mind to and be whatever they want to be could be an inspirational thing to say yet could also do the opposite.
You could point out the negative aspects of the individual and point out what professional basketball players have that they do not and how unrealistic it is to pursue this future as a way to educate.
I suggest we go about these conversations a bit differently
loving to do something because you enjoy it and knowing what it takes to become a professional are very important when making these decisions in life.
We need to start encouraging eachother to use this amazing force between our ears through our own logical conclusions.
We do this through meaningful dialogue.
Discuss what professional basketball players have in common and get the wheels turning for the individual.
This way they come to the realization if they themself has what it takes to either overcome their disadvantages,
while also promoting active thought of their personal advantages possessed.
As a society we tend to press upon others with our personal opinions as fact to those we have direct influence over.
Especially if their preferences differ from our views an opinions of what someone's individual capabilities are unrealistically.
I have discovered in most situations I have no idea of all facts of an issue.
To impress my will or opinion in a judgmental or persuading manner without knowing the facts is irresponsible.
We need to wonder if we as a society have become selfish and irresponsible.
Have pressured so many through political correctness forgetting what it truly is to have meaningful dialogue
Caused change to ones personal aspirations
Through personal influential opinions,
Weather negative or positive?
