Suffering time

in #thoughts6 years ago

I was writing before bed (what seems too few hours ago) how many of people's complaints with Steem are not Steem related, but personal. I meet quite a few people in my world who believe they are correct in action but complain about the situations they find themselves in, without considering if it is them, not circumstances that cause their suffering.

When it come to Steem, many take an idealistic view of the ecosystem without recognising that their view is heavily biased, an ideal they have imagined that suits their agenda. Often, it is narrow focused and doesn't factor in other situations, often an ideal in one aspect conflicts with an ideal in another. Competing desires.

It is interesting how many well-read people there are struggling and suffering through life. Some consume information much like a gamer consumes a new game, for pleasure, not practical consideration. On Steem it is no different.

People want to do what they want on Steem but also expect to get the results they want from doing it, without thinking if what they do leads to what they want. Your voice is worth something, 0 is a numerical value also. Although far from perfect, the system is somewhat freer in potential reward than centralized platforms but, it doesn't mean that everything is rewarded.

There are still relationship components between post and audience and to get rewarded for content generally requires some type of purchase agreement at some point by the voter. Not all approaches are going to get the same feedback loop, positive or negative.

Someone who is aggressive or abrasive is unlikely to get as much positive engagement as someone who is personable, someone who continually complains is usually less likeable as a character than one who is easy going.

Personal preference plays a heavy role in what kinds of content or people get supported, and this is everywhere in the world we inhabit. Ideals of aesthetics matter when making a purchase, and this includes the look of information bought. If an idea fits into someone's preferential model, they are more willing to accept it than if it doesn't.

An idea presented by a Democrat to a Democrat carries more weight than if it comes from a republican. A Trump supporter will overlook behaviours in Trump they wouldn't accept in another US president, especially from a different party. These biases have very little to do with what one believes is correct.

Personally, I don't mind making mistakes which is why I often use maybe, perhaps and possibly type words here, as it is a clear indicator to the audience that the decisions made on the information is theirs. We all live a life of our decision purchases but what does this say about those who believe they are correct but suffer? Pain is physical, suffering psychological as I see it, which means that even if physical circumstances cause pain, there is a chance to reduce suffering.

It doesn't mean it is easy, but a mind that isn't suffering is more capable to deal with the circumstances causing physical pain than one that is under psychological duress. People often try avoiding their suffering by avoiding what causes them pain. They bury themselves into a pleasure activity instead of dealing with the root cause of their problems. For some it is gaming or drugs, for others it is shopping, news or internet discussion. All the same, just different forms.

Sometimes I wonder what practical steps people take to face their life challenges but then, unless it helps me face my own, what is the point? It would just be another type of avoidance, like worrying about paying the bills but spending time reading what Brad Pitt is doing or, browsing memes on the latest engineered internet drama.

Of course, some people find their avoidance activity of the utmost importance and try to draw others into their world for validation purposes but, not everyone need buy in. At least for me, I find most of what people do on the internet useless as it doesn't seem to add to quality of life. But, who am I to judge, they have their own 80-odd average years to live and how they spend it is up to them.

My job is to spend mine the best I can and doing what I consider a waste of my time is not it. I could be wrong in what I consider a waste but, such is life.

This line just made my day. Wonderfully put, really.

I think it depends precisely on what you think. Nothing (well, most things) are not a waste of time by default. Something I see a lot of value in may seem worthless to you and so on.
So, if you do view it as a waste of time, well, that's all the qualification it needs.

Yep, I can't really judge but if someone asks, I generally give my opinion. Since my writing isn't targeted for or at anyone in particular, people can pick and choose what they focus on. Some look big picture, some cherry pick for their own agenda push. Their choice. If it helps or harms them, that is their decision.

So, if you do view it as a waste of time, well, that's all the qualification it needs.

I am becoming pretty good at cutting away time waste, it is hard on the needy ones though as they often get bitter. Part of being attention seeking.

Biases, As Subjective As They Are Should Be Consciously Moderated To Avoid Their Causing Us Unnecessary Pain And Sufferings!!

A Futuristic Mind Diminitated By Possibilities Instead Of Lamentations Is Limitless In Capacity To Achieve Life's Desires!!

Remember that the root of suffering is desire :)

Btw, why do you write with the first letter capitalised? It isn't so great for my personal readability, so just wonder if there is a reason.

Great write up @tarazkp.

"At least for me, I find most of what people do on the internet useless as it doesn't seem to add to quality of life."

I think we can go even further and say that not only the time spent on the internet doesn't add to the quality of life, but for many it's quite the opposite.

-spending hourse binge watching TV shows
-playing games all day long
-watching porn 3x times a day

Do any of the above day in and day out for countless hours and you are a zombie.

People have bee turned into consumers of all things and while we consume ever more of what is fed, we continue to degrade our bodies and minds into the abyss of repetition.

Writing before bed .... All thoughts put on paper or phone before bed are better for your nights rest! And you are right people who complain the loudest are the ones not owning up to responsibilities. And complain and wine just not Being honest to the rest of the world or themselves !
Have a great Sunday or sleep I dont know

Writing before bed .... All thoughts put on paper or phone before bed are better for your nights rest!

It is funny you say this. I used to have trouble sleeping no matter how little or much I would get. Once I started working at processing my thoughts (well before I started writing) I started sleeping much, much better. This is another curse of the consuming mind, unprocessed thought.

Yep peacefull sleep starts on an empty mind.

You know what helps a note pad and pen on your night stand and When you got an idea or cant stop thinking about something smerige down the wird and your mind sets the thought(s) Free

As one of complainers I should probably make a little update:
After stopping to think about it I realize that I am doing better in whaleshares not just because of the new platform. I am simply slacking off in steemit. I make effort to create the best art I can create. But I am not making the same effort in connecting with people. It doesn't matter what quality my art is if I am only constantly talking with 5 or 6 people. Why should I expect engagement if I am not engaging myself?

in whaleshares I am simply more active. Art contest? Sure. Song recommendation contest? Sounds fun. Favorite beverage contest? count me in.

If Whaleshares continues on a similar growth pathway, you have a big opportunity but, be warned, there are going to be a lot of changes, market dips, technical issues of various kinds over time. Expect it will all change and you can be adaptive.

There is a difference between someone suffering because they have a terminal illness and someone suffering because they aren't getting as much money for their Steem as they used to. One the person can want to change the situation, but they're unable. The other, the person may not want to change what they're doing, but if they don't they'll keep getting the low prices. They do have a choice to do something else though.

People often treat mental discomfort like physical I think. What I find is that often those who are terminally ill suffer less even if they are in pain. Perhaps it is because they have accepted it and are at a peace of some kind. That is rarely their first reaction to the news though.

Those who have a social media platform as a source of their suffering might want to reevaluate their position in life from time to time.

Highly agree with your thoughts on biases and how they impact our way through the community. I often take the route of “if you don’t have something positive to say, say nothing” as it often leads to destroying value instead of building. However, it does provide perspective to reflect on. Ultimately, compared to centralized social media even 0 of something here is more than 100% of 0 there...
