TIL The WORLD'S GREATEST TOOL

in #til8 years ago (edited)

What is the world's greatest tool? Quite difficult to figure out? Is it the shovel, the calculator, the AI machines, the guns and armour tanks,or the tractor? Oh! The computer! Definitely not. Let me give you a clue.

A tool is an instrument that is used to carryout or accomplish a task on an act.

Still confused.

What's the notion on the famous Sage(Charles Darwin)'s phrase , SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, you live or you die.

Imagine an eagle without its sharp eyes and talons, a bird without its wings and beak, a black mamba without its fork-like tongue, fangs and venom, a wolf without its fangs and now to my point, a human without a good, functioning brain and limbs. All these tools function to do nothing but create a conducive and adaptable environment and conditions necessary for survival.

Though, other animals do have brains but the human brain being the most advanced stands out giving a preference of survival and control over the other animals with brains. So all other tools made by man was as a result of this superb and amazing tool used in the process.

THE BRAIN

The brain is an incredible figure, a commandant, a complicated highway system composed of about 100 billion neurons that controls all other functions of other body parts. It is located in the head, protected by the cranium, and connected to the spinal cord. It coordinates thoughts, behaviors, emotion, movement, sensations. It functions by receiving information from the senses ( skin, eyes, tongue, nose, ear), processing them and giving out an output or storing the processed the processed information.

The brain is made up of about 75% water and is the fattest organ in the body having at least 60% fat. It consumes a large amount , about 20% of the total oxygen and is supplied with 20% of the blood circulating in the body. Information can be processed as slowly as 0.5 m/s or as fast as 120m/s generating between 10 to 23 watts of power (enough to light a bulb) in the process.

And there you go, the skyscrappers, weaponry, cars, jets, pen, best of computers were all made by the use of this 3 pounds tool that wants to take over the world, the Brain and not to forget its sidekicks the limbs.

I'm a microbiology undergraduate at the University and I'm fascinated with learning amazing stuff about life everyday.

Steemit is re-kindling my love for writing and I will be sharing with you amazing stuff I discover everyday at school and over the course of my search for knowledge.

Interesting post! The brain is definitely something we use every day! It's fascinating learning about what we really are. Although, we still have a lot to learn about the brain. Thank you for helping spread more knowledge of science!
