TIL - Estelle Getty in the Golden Girls

Estelle Getty played 80-year-old Sophia Petrillo, the mother of Bea Arthur's character Dorothy, but was actually the second-youngest cast member of the four leading ladies.

Her transformation into Sophia involved application of a white wig and prosthetic wrinkles by the show's makeup teams - the process initially took around 45 minutes, but this became longer after Getty turned up looking even younger when season two began (she’d had a facelift during the summer hiatus).
