Introduction to Efficient Googling

We spend a lot of time on google, searching things.

Sometimes we pour tremendous time trying to find the result we are looking for. If proper search term is not inserted you can end up spending hours.

We are already short in time doing the real work . No need to spend useless energy finding stuff.

With a simple tweak, you can cut that time in half or less.

It's so easy to learn that if you read it once, it'll stay in your head for good automatically.

Without further ado, let's get on to it.

9+7 Simple Tips to Incorporate in Your Google Search

  1. Limiting to a specific site for searching: There are plenty of contents but the reality is, many are worthless. Most of the time, we don't even go to the second page. Personally, I only look at the first top 7~8 results. But top ranked links don't necessary give what I need, especially when I'm trying to do some serious research. It's always better to retrieve information from authoritative sites that you know. For instance, if you want to learn about birds, source from national geographic is much reliable than a random article from buzzfeed.
  • Secret Recipe => : (colon)
  • Example => milf site:youporn.com
2. Excluding results with a certain contained word: You are looking to find a job so that you can pay your bills. It will be pretty frustrating if google spits out links related to hand job.
  • Secret Recipe => - (hyphen)
  • Example => job -hand
3. Exact searching using quote: You are attending a seminar and you are bored to death. Suddenly you remember the holes in your girlfriend's panty when you were doing her laundry this morning. Not being able to focus, you decide to entertain yourself by looking more google images of holes in panties. If you type in holes in panties, google generates results that contain those three words but not necessarily in that order. So, you may have result that is relevant to panties in holes (wink wink) instead; I guess in this case, you wouldn't mind even though it's not what you were initially expecting. Anyways, if you want to fixate the order, you want to use "(words or phrase)"
  • Secret Recipe => " " (quotation mark)
  • Example => "Big Boys Toys"
4. Finding a page that links to another page: Whether you are in search of a relevant page to a certain post to research or you are gathering all the backlinks to your competition's page, this is very useful!
  • Secret Recipe => link:
  • Example => link:iwillteachyoutoberich.com
5. Asterisk placeholder: Don't you have those moment, you want to find the title of a song but you only remember a few words which may not be the exact phrase in the lyrics because some words are missing in the between? Don't worry, your problem is solved instantly with google.
  • Secret Recipe => * (asterisk)
  • Example => brain so good could've * you * to college
6. Finding similar sites: I visit reddit.com quite often when I get bored. I like the contents provided there. I remember I once exhausted all the posts related to a topic of my interest on reddit, so I was searching for a similar site that covers it. That's how I found boingboing.net using this simple tip.
  • Secret Recipe => related:
  • Example =>related:reddit.com
7. Searching for multiple words or phrase simultaneously: To find an answer, there are many ways to ask google. Sometimes you have no clue what search phrase is going to pop the result you are looking for. In this case, type in a synonym or other way of expressing it.
  • Secret Recipe => OR
  • Example => "how to enlarge your dick" OR "how to make your penis look bigger"
8. Specific filetype: I have a confession to make. I actually read many books off my ipad without ever purchasing them. Someone always kindly uploaded a pdf version of the book. All I had to do was use this trick and I get a free book.
  • Secret Recipe => filetype:
  • Example => the art of seduction filetype:pdf
9. Track you package: Whether it's ups, DHL, FedEx just type in the tracking number in the search box and voila! There you have it.
  • Secret Recipe => literally the tracking number (nothing else needed)
  • Example => W 123 456 7890 DE
