Utopia means elsewhere. (John Malkovich)

in #today3 years ago

I am not sure if John Malkovich is referring to a special place here, but the way I see it, Utopia is a place where you would love to be, but it always remain a place where you are not. What does it mean?

We are programmed in a way that makes us never really satisfied. We always want to be somewhere were we are not. What do I mean? If you have been dreaming of owning a house your entire life, that is cool. Once you get the house, it will be nice, but you will most likely only enjoy it to the full for a while, and then your utopia will turn into something else.

We are not good at enjoying our present time and our present condition. Instead, we always compare ourselves with others who have even more, who are happier, who have more money, and it leaves us in a sad state in which we are unable to enjoy life at our present location.

So, what should you do?

Relax and enjoy life! Enjoy the morning coffee, instead of thinking about all those visiting Starbucks to drink their coffee. Think of life without coffee, and when you do that, enjoy your present coffee instead!
