"OUR" Traditional Wedding

in #tradition7 years ago (edited)

Hello Everyone! it's been awhile since I've posted anything up about my life experiencing moments. On August 11-13 of 2017, my husband and I, had our traditional Hmong wedding. We had to travel 10-12 hours back to my home in MO from MN and the wedding took approximately two days! It was such a short weekend despite the long travel.

The wedding consists of the bride, Me, the Groom, my husband, the green lady who has to follow me according to tradition, as well as the men who also follows the groom. In our tradition, there is the Man side of the wedding and the women side of the wedding. The women side of the family decides how the wedding is done and the man side basically complies because the man side has now taken the daughter to be their "people" and It was complicated but wondrous at the same time. So many things happened at the same time and it was a roller coaster. There was CONSTANT eating for the wedding and drinking from my husbands side. On the first night of the wedding, my husband and I, had the chance to spend the night at my house in MO, sorta like a "one last time" sleep as their daughter and the next time i see them again, I won't just be their daughter but also a wife to their son-in-law.

Tears of happiness and sadness were shedding non-stop when it was time to "leave" my family. We had a saying, "don't look back," if we do It'll be bad luck. The wife would be tempted to stay because it's her family after all or as some superstition says that it'll be bad for the newlyweds future. All in all the wedding succeeded and now our journey of a newlywed officially starts. So far, it's definitely bumpy and we're still staying strong. We definitely learn new things about one another and talked about numerous subjects. There's a checklist of all the things you'll find that your marriage hopefully doesn't face but you do. Plainly put it...you do, you will, and you shouldn't avoid it because it'll only make your marriage stronger. Now, enough of my chit chat and enjoy the photos!
