introduction on transgenic plants

in #trans7 years ago

Normally what we see from our eyes are plant tissues, such as beautiful flowers, strong stems, green leaves......; but all those tissues are composed of plant cells, which is small size, but, if we continue to magnify the cells, we will find the small cell is composed of different cell organelles, and the DNA are localized in nuclear, gene is the small fragments of DNA, it contains the secret of plant properties, such as how tall can plan grow, which kind of color of its flower....

To make a gene work, the gene should be droved by another DNA fragment named Promoter, The promoter could bind proteins that help the gene express. The gene could not play its function directly, it needs two steps, first it will be decoded by a step called transcription, in this step, DNA information is transferred into RNA, and RNA will transmit the information to protein by a step called translation. Through those steps, the protein is synthesized, different proteins plays different functions, then reflex the different phenotype as we can see from our eyes. From this points, I always surprised the beauty of our life, its so tightly controlled step by step. DNA is the smallest unit of genetic information, but can we still divide it? we know DNA is composed of A T C and G, probably, there are different form of A T C and G, which is tightly controlled by link them together to compose of the DNA fragments.

In China, there is a quote: Greatest music Has the Faintest Notes,Greatest Form Is Beyond Shape, that means tinny things could be more tinny, even the smallest substance including "ATCG" could be divided with the technology advance. So let's hope to dig more!
