My apologies to Deutschland

in #travel-local8 years ago

So, since Munich, things have been a bit rough for a hobo. It got better in Stuttgart, but on the outer south regions around Frankfurt, things became kuhl.

German has the same word, but they say it in a way that is hard to explain. Like slavic languages, the letter L has several forms. In German one of the nicest sounds in their language is written as -hl. Like the slavic/cyrillic Х, it is like H with a strong exhale, like when soldiers say, "Attennn-HUT".

But that doesn't really explain the sound, with these alternate L's... The Bulgarian words for onions and lies are respectively Luk and Luzhes. And it makes me go wobbly hearing this sound.

Anyway, so, from where I landed at Graffshausen, I wandered off, discovering that German autobahn rest stops usually have connecting roads to elsewhere. I found a McDonalds where I posted my previous post. The place seemed to be run by Syrians or something, the cleaning man was very funny and huffy.

From there I got a "small" coffee for a euro, which was huger than any cafe dulgo I was used to, and a hamburger also for a euro. And a full charge, and a walking route to the next stop, which you can see here:

Map to Weiskirchen Rastanlage

The path was right thru the middle of forest, and were it not for Google maps I would have got so lost in there.

There were more awesome mushrooms, and I apologise for so many pictures of one species, but I just love the way they cluster, in mycology this is called "gregarious":

Just after exiting the forest I spotted these two equine beasts:

The closer one responded to me calling, and let me get a closer photo. I had an apple in my bag, and I so wanted to give it.

Well, just a bit past a camping place where I was able to take a toilet break, which was nice, I saw this pale green Ford Mustang II drive past. Then a little ways further, it appeared again, and this nice lady in it wanted to take me somewhere.

The walk I planned was as as shown above. I was about 1/3 along it. She took in spite of me only having a map but not a route, to Weiskirchen, and being confused by my walking route to within about an hour's walking distance of my intended destination.

She was so cool this lady, her name was Karima, though Frankfurt born and bred, her name is Algerian. She was very happy to transport me, in spite of my bad navigating, she goes wobbly for Australian accents like I do for Slavic.

So, I landed in Weiskirchen, and spotted a supermarket and with the help of my collected deposit refund empty drink cans, I got some Frankfurter Apfelwein:

Basically, Apple cider, though the fizz was very light. It was as I expected... They grow a lot of apples in Germany.

Then, along this path to the southbound side of the rasthof, I found a roach, which further improved my mood:

Then I spotted this, a shower. I would have liked one but I felt too poor:

Here is the sign I made for the next leg to Cologne:

Well, then this awesome ethnic Russian who grew up in Romania picked me up. He was very happy to hear my story, and took me to his delivery spot, he is a courier, I met his father, and then he dropped me back on the A3 at a rest stop I am writing this from. He gave me €36!

He took a selfie but my phone was set wrong and didn't get a good image. But I will add it to the end here when he emails it tomorrow and I am online again. His name was Georgi, or Igor, I learned Igor is George same as Ivan is John... He wanted my contact so I gave him email and my steem profile address.

Yay!

Tomorrow I will be hitching a ride, hopefully, direct to Amsterdam, as this highway goes to Duivendrecht, which is on the way to Amsterdam.

But for now, time to cross the highway on the back road and find a place to sleep.

I also discovered if you clear your cookies, use another browser or use an incognito window, you can get more time on these rasthof Telekom hotspots. Yay! So now I am finished writing.
