Indonesia was elected as Guest Country or Country of the Europalia Indonesia Art Festival 2017, based on Memorandum of Understanding of the Ministry of Education and Culture of RI and Europalia International, dated July 14, 2015, and the signing of Framework Agreement of the Ministry of Education and Culture of RI and Europalia International dated December 7, 2015.
In addition, a number of agreements have been reached, related to organizations, programs, financing (financing), expenditure (expenditure), and communication. The election of Indonesia as a Guest Country has been through a rigorous and lengthy selection. In Asia there are only 3 countries that have ever been Guest Country (Japan - 1989, China - 2009, and India - 2013), while in Southeast Asia new Indonesia in 2017/2018 this year.
Europalia is an international non-profit association established since 1959, under the auspices of the Belgian King who initiated the festival every two years. The Europalia Festival became the largest and prestigious cultural event in Europe, held for 4 months in 36 cities in eight European countries. And in every activity is always officially opened by the King of Belgium with the Head of State / Government of the Guest Country.
The Europalia Festival includes exhibitions, performing arts, music, literature, culinary, seminars, conferences, and movies. The concept of organizing themed four pillars (four pillars) that is heritage, contemporary, creations and exchange. And the festival is specifically showcasing the art and culture of Guest Country, with the aim of promoting the country's culture, to be better known in Belgium in particular, and Europe in general.
Festival Europalia Indonesia 2017, will carry the exhibition, performing arts, film, literary arts. And gastronomy. The preparation of these programs has involved the government and private officials, experts, artists and curators of each program from Indonesia, conducting communications and meetings with its counterparts at Europalia International, throughout the year.
As a Guest Country, this Europalia Festival is a potential event for cultural diplomacy of a country, because the location of the festival is in Copital of Europe, Brussels. Besides Guest Country can hold shows, events and exhibitions, not only in Brussels, but at 36 points in other cities in Belgium and eight other European countries. In addition to the Guest Country art team, the opportunity to work with teams, experts, cultural institutions, and related parties (museum, cultural center, hall, theater) in Belgium, as well as other European countries.
Visitors to the festival are expected to reach 1.5 million people, from all over Europe. Even national and international promotion can reach 2,500 to 3,000 articles and news, both electronic and electronic.
