The town that’s full of …BULL!
New Zealanders have a great sense of humour. It seems New Zealand has it all and then some! You’ll find this town on the north island between Wanganui and Palmerston North (check out the map in the blog below).
I can’t wait to post this blog, it’s so funny. I hope you get a laugh or two out of it like we did, and still do.
When you drive into town you get this great big sign:
A Town Like No Udder:
This cute little town was named after an earlier settler and shop owner who lived there. His name was James Bull.
So what did the New Zealanders do? They used this guy’s name to the full. And made the town unforgettable.
Each shop and business has the word bull,
Added to its name or advertising:
Check this out:
- The police station is called: Constable. Where everything is In-formable and Detectable!
- At the estate agents they’re called: Sell-a-bull and Rent-a-bull.
- The Motel is called: Comfort-a-bull.
- The antique/knick-knack shop is called: “What a load of Bull”
- The shop where you get your saws sharpened is called: Sharpen-a-bull.
- The scrapyard is called: Scrap-a-bull.
- The locksmith shop is called: Bull-locks!
- The restaurant is called: Feast-a-bull. And the food is Delict-a-bull.
And I suppose you could call my blog… wait for it…
…. Fease-a-bull
He he! Hope you had a good laugh too? We did, and still chuckle with friends over our experience going through New Zealand’s funniest town!
On a more serious note:
Here some photos of the surrounding countryside. See how the green grass is starting to go yellow. The winter rains generally stop after Christmas day. And you'll see as my series (@artguru) on our trip through New Zealand, things start getting dryer and browner as time goes on.
Thanks so much for sharing so beautiful posts.
I have never heard of the information you gave to New Zealand before.
I liked a lot in which New Zealand's naming scene was very well discussed. I hope this post will benefit you all. . @artguru
The "Herd of bulls" sign board is to funny .
Seems like you had real good time in the bull town?😊
It was such fun, we couldn't stop making up new names, all of our own ideas, as we left the town behind. It was like playing a game.
We all deserve times like this.
It's always good to take breaks from our hectic schedule and go vacation like you did.
Keep Sharing your experiences with us sir😊
I though so too
I am the Great Cornholio! I'm a gringo!
@artguru hahahaha!!! What a unique town indeed! I love how they did that with all the names... something truly "out of the box" lol. As for the "serious note" - I can totally relate... I live in Cape Town South Africa and we have had SEVERE water restrictions for the last year. We are almost at a point of having our taps turned off with water shedding.
It is a very sad sight here too, to see the farm lands drying up and dying. As you drive down streets in the suburbs now it is a very sad sight indeed! We got VERY little rain last Winter and are now moving into Summer and our summers are BLISTERING hot... which is also not a very comforting thought... but, trying to always remain positive and maybe we will have some summer rains too...
Lovely post and thanks for the giggle ;)
I'm also a South African and our eldest daughter lives in Bellville, Cape Town, so we worry about how she is coping.
Glad you mentioned the drought. Sometime earlier, a couple of months back, a person didn't believe what I was saying about South Africa having a bad drought when we got back from New Zealand. She said she had a friend in SA, who said the country was very green!
I think many people seem to have inaccurate information regarding the severity of things...
It's regrettabull, that I will never have the plesurabull opportunity to visit such a bullish little town.
I caught your jest about been: pleasure-a-bull. That was very smart of you.
I HOPE BULLS WILL TREAT YOU WELL LOL
I didn't see any cattle that day! Or their cow pies!
I love this bull ..
Thank you for sharing this @artguru this is very informative! Resteemed!
I loved the BULL too. Great fun New Zealand. The people have such a wonderful sense of humour.
