To the Tip and back. (Cape York)
Hi Vagabonds,
It's been an interesting start to the year, so much has happened. I haven't been able to keep up with a blog, something just had to give, but I guess as always the best place to start is at the beginning..
The beginning of the story is around mid September, it's been a whirlwind trip and I'm a bit lost for dates at this point in time.
We spent about a week and a half at the tip of Australia, "Cape York", it is an amazing place to visit, full of contrasts, beautiful scenery, harsh conditions, history both good and bad, and friendly people.
When you get to the Cape, the first thing you have to do, which is a right of passage, is make the journey to the very tip of Australia, everyone takes a photo and some even crack a beer to celebrate the achievement we did both, the drive out to the tip from Bamaga is 34k's, 30 of which is rough corrugation, but well worth the effort, there is also an old abandoned resort there, with its own debated history. Exploring this area will easily take a whole day, if not more, we took 2 trips up there.
After our expedition to the northern most part of Australia it was back to our caravan. We stayed at a caravan park called "Alau" which translates to "A magical place", from the local Indigenous language, the place was the cheapest we could find at the Cape, but by far not the worst.
It was right on the beach, with views to die for and an amazing host by the name of Berry who took the time out to take us sight seeing for a day, but the thing people may have an issue with, is the 5 or so dogs that roam the area, they seem to belong to no-one and look mangie and underfed, but for the most part were very friendly and were no problem to us, or our dog "Akira", who stood out from the pack due to being the only dog that looked well fed and it seemed if you decided to go for a walk well then, the posse had to come for a look as well and we love animals so that was fine by us.
Coming next sights around Bamiga and the trip back to Cairns also I am going to do a few blogs over the next weeks to help you guys catch up before we leave Perth.
