Trekking in the highlands of Perú, trying to reach the snow mountains

Today I want to show you one of the most beautiful and difficult trek I have ever done. In Peru it doesn't snow and only close to 5000 m.a.s.l. is possible to find ice and snow in some parts of the Andes range. The best places to see snow mountains are Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayuash. The second one is famous between trekkers because it was included in a National Geographic list as one of the best 10 trekking routes in the world.

To do the complete Huayhuash circuit takes about 8 days. I only did a 3 day trek route. I went with my boyfriend who took all the pictures.

On the highest point of the first day of trekking

The first day we walked like 7 hours. In the mountains there are "apachetas" which are small stone mounds usually in the highest points of the path. It is a custom to put another small stone on top.

First night

We were lucky because the sky was clear and it didn't rain. The snow mountain in the picture is called "Jirishanca"

Second day

This day we hiked to get close to Jirishanca mountain

Jirishanca mountain and Solterococha lagoon.

I had to rest and recover energy

Me and my boyfriend. As you can see our tent was not the best, we had to cover it with plastic because of the rain.

Third day

We don't have pictures because it was the last day. We had to hike again, all the way back.
