Weekend in Brighton: exploring what the city has to offer

in #travel7 years ago

As I said in a previous post, Brighton is a vibrant city with an amazing atmosphere: young, create and free! I loved feeling relaxed whilst walking through the city center, passing the quirky shops and restaurants from all parts of the world (yes, I'm a foodie). But apart from that, what is there really to do in Brighton??

Earlier this summer I was in Brighton for a long weekend and I was lucky enough to experience the city to the fullest because my boyfriend decided to organize a few programs to ensure I would see everything in the city. So as you see it, I got super lucky as I tried a lot of things and I didn't even have to research "things to do in Brighton"! Nevertheless, I get to tell you all about it, so you won't have to research either ;)

1)First and more obvious: The Brighton pier (duuh)

That is an easy one because the Pier is one of the symbols of Brighton. If you google images of Brighton, for sure you will see pictures of the pier (it is that iconic and popular!). However, as slightly cheesy as it might seem when you think about the rides and games (like the ones you likely used to play when you were younger), it cannot be missed! The entire place screams fun, with lights and loud noises, it is the right place to go spend time with a date or group of friends to escape the obvious fun things grown-ups do (read movies, netflix or pub). It is guaranteed a few laughs and a good time. The rides can be kinda expensive though, so if you few like trying 4 or 5, it might be worth buying a pass at 20 pounds.

*If you decide to visit the pier, make sure you bring a jacket because it can get pretty windy up there! And don't forget your camera, as it is a great spot for pictures.

  1. The ghost tour of Brighton (Ghost walk of the Lanes)

Now, this tour is just a fun little way of getting to know more about the city's history if you are tired of traditional tours or simply just want to try something different. During this tour, you will hear all kinds of ghost stories about Brighton: about famous ghost appearing in spots of the city, urban legends and etc. You will walk along the Lanes (famous streets/area of Brighton's city center) and even see where this ghosts supposedly appeared.

I don't want to spoil anything so I will not say anything else, just that it is entertaining, so if you ever wonder what scary side Brighton has to offer, that is it! (For the faint of heart, don't worry, it is not actually scary, just fun)

  1. Choccywoccydoodah: chocolate paradise

You know it is snack time (or tea time like the British say) when there is an entire chocolate store waiting for you!

(all made of chocolate = dream come true)

So for the steemians with a sweet tooth, such as myself, this paradise exists! Not only can you buy all the beautiful things made of chocolate there (dolls, phones, shoes, dogs and hundreds more chocolate-shaped things), they also have a small cafe upstairs with a menu offering different types of bites (all containing chocolate). In their menu, you can try the different types of chocolate their offer, have drinks with chocolate and etc. It is very good chocolate as well (I had to try it just to let you guys know).

  1. And since we are talking about food.... 'Street dinner'

WeChat Image_20170927001010.jpg
Although it is called dinner, this is also available during the day for brunch, lunch, first dinner or just if you want something to bite. It is kind of an open-air food market, where you have stands making quick street food from different places in the world! The variety of food you find there is crazy for such a small event. From vegetarian to steaks, typical English to Vietnamese and Korean food. After you order what you want, you can just sit on the grass and enjoy it or take away. What I like the most about places like this, is that if you want to try different cuisines, you can just get 1 item of each stand and mix it up. The only bad thing is that this 'event' only happens on Fridays.

  1. Royal Pavillion and the park

If the weather is good and you feel tired of all the wandering around trying different restaurants, shops and taking selfies, you might also want to sit and enjoy the sun and nature (a bit of a joke when it comes to the U.K. cause the sun is not that often there, but you might get lucky. I did!).

This is just a very pleasant park, with musicians and a palace on the background, cause why not? Maybe have a picnic with a friend there or go inside the Pavillion (I wasn't able to go myself, but I've heard it is beautiful). This is one of the sights that are worth seeing in Brighton.

These are just some of the activities you can do whilst in Brighton, but there are many many more. The possibilities are endless really! So if you decide to visit this city, make sure to try some of the things listed here and let me know what you thought! Do you have something else in mind that I missed? Have you ever visited Brighton? Let me know!! :)
