Tasmania Day 5 - Wineglass Bay

For Day 5 of our Tasmanian trip, @forexbrokr and I travelled to Wineglass Bay. Our accommodation was approximately 1 hour from the carpark of the walk, and the drive went quickly. We had a quick stop for breakfast -

Shortly after, we reached our destination, parked at the carpark and began our ascent.

The Walk

The walk to the Wineglass Bay Lookout is 40 minutes, each way. The ascent to the lookout is hard for those of us with poor fitness (like me!) but is doable. Along the way there are plenty of chances to see other interesting sights, and the rock formations are worth observing.

The Lookout

Interestingly, the Wineglass Bay area is a "drone-free zone". I hadn't seen this sort of signage before.

The view from the lookout made the arduous trek worthwhile -

The Descent

Soon it was time to return to the ground, leaving us to admire anything we'd missed on the way up. I was a much bigger fan of the descent, as I found the downhill travel a lot easier than the uphill! I even spotted a delicate orchid.

Honeymoon Bay

After the trek to the Lookout, we drove back a short while, stopping at Honeymoon Bay for a stroll along the beach.

Penguin Tour

We spent the evening at the Bicheno Penguin Tour. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos of the penguins. We saw Little Blue Penguins, which are referred to as Fairy Penguins in Sydney. They grow about 30cm in height, and weigh about a kilo when fully grown. The penguins that we saw were mostly breeding pairs, and plenty had chicks of varying ages. They weren't too shy about coming close, and did not seem concerned by the groups of humans trampling through their habitat!

It was a great experience, and one that I would do again.

The night sky was also particularly beautiful, with plenty of stars visible from where we were.

In Day 6, we travel further along the east coast, to the Bay of Fires.

Was hard with 3kgs of water on your back too 😂.

We spent the evening at the Bicheno Penguin Tour.

Really disappointed that we couldn’t take photos here. The experience of pretty much stepping over penguins who weren’t phased at all by our presence was amazing. Massive highlight for me!

I offered to carry the bag on multiple occasions!!!
And I can kinda understand why we couldn't take photos - plus in the dim light, they would've turned out terrible.

Drone-free zone! ha! They are up-to-date with the 21st century.

They certainly are. My guess is that it would prevent accidents from drones running into people, as well as stop the pollution of the view with little flying things!

That is a great idea to protect a place like wineglass bay from losing its wilderness feel! We saw a group of dolphins there as we were hiking along the beach and they were doing "acrobatics" for a loooong time. I have no idea what that behavior meant but it was surreal! .

That would have been incredible! I haven't ever seen dolphins in the wild, but I would love to - even more special that they put on a show for you!

Hi @calathea, nice travel post! Tassie looks really nice. As one of the editors for @steemitworldmap’s daily #traveldigest, I would love to see it pop up on http://steemitworldmap.com. Hi choogirl, thanks for the tip, I've added this post to the world map (hope I did it right!).
Tassie has been great, and we've been really lucky with the weather.

Yep. The auto response means it's all good. Thanks for adding them.

Hello @calathea. Beautiful pictures as always. I read that Wineglass Bay is considered one of the top ten beaches in the world. Has white sand, sapphire colored sea, pink and grey granite peaks.

Hi @krystine, it is definitely a gorgeous beach down there! There are a lot of places on the east coast of Tasmania that do match that description as well, we've passed so much beautiful sapphire sea - I didn't even think it was possible to see that in Tasmania.

Congratulations, Your Post Has Been Added To The Steemit Worldmap!
