The HuayHuash - Story behind the Photo
This is just one of the amazing photos taken while we hiked our way through South America! This photo was taken while I gasped for air as I crawled up the second mountain pass for the day on the Huayhuash hike in Peru. We stood at almost 5000m above sea level using the short break to take in this breathtaking view. The weather had cleared only moments before I made it to the lookout and for a moment I forgot how tired I was!
The rest of that day involved even more steep terrain up over the pass, although I struggled at the time and wanted to give up it was all worth these views!
This section of mountains in The Andes is called The Cordillera Blanca. The place is unforgiving and the weather is brutal. Overnight temperatures hit -15 c and despite clinging to two sleeping bags I still froze every night for 7 nights straight! The hike was the single hardest thing I have ever completed!
