Flying with our pup (in cabin) for the first time! | Important PSA
Hey Everyone :)
Long time no post but we finally made it to Breckenridge and are all settled in so I thought I would share our experience with bringing our pup Leila along on our flight in cabin.
First off, I would like to say that, no it isn't the hardest process in the world HOWEVER, out of common courtesy to other people if your dog is not well trained or unable to settle down for extended periods of time in one space then for the love of everything good DO NOT put your dog through the stress of air travel in general. We had way too many people telling us that our dog was so well behaved in comparison to other certified emotional support dogs they had encountered. For example, a majority of the "horror" stories we heard were of smaller dogs just being yappy and bigger dogs being so restless that they started crying etc.
That being said there are some situations that you may just have to bring your dog on a flight whether it be in cabin or in the luggage area I would HIGHLY recommend the use of CBD oil instead of typical medications to relax your dog or make them drowsy. Our dog broke her front leg about a year ago so she was on 100% bed rest for a while and being that she is high energy we needed to relax her somehow and the Fentanyl Patch prescribed to her initially was just awful. We told our surgeon we didn't like the patch and asked what he thought of CBD and he said it was hands down a much better option.
Flying from Houston to Denver isn't a long flight at all coming in at just under 2 hours and 30 min it was a perfect first flight in terms of duration. We also opted for the economy plus seats so that Leila would be leaning against a wall rather than another chair and this also is just more room in general for her.
Another thing I really recommend is getting a vest with some patches that say "Do Not Pet" mainly because EVERYONE wants to say hi and when you have a plane to catch it isn't pleasant to get stopped every 10 feet. Which is another point I want to make, PLEASE DO NOT ask to pet a dog with a working vest and patches that CLEARLY say not to. The amount of people who just freely walked up to Leila without asking to pet her really was just a little...flat out annoying. Not only that but you don't know how another person's dog will react to strangers. Luckily Leila is friendly and isn't going to bite right away but it just got really tiresome to tell people to not let their kids just walk up to our dog. No vest would have been a completely different story but vest means she is in work mode and cannot be bothered.
ANYWAYS haha sorry for the rant but this is just something that really was bugging us throughout our trip.
During the whole flight Leila actually slept and comfortably too haha.
I would also recommend getting the TSA pre-approved security so you don't have to stand in the super long line surrounded by people with your dog.
So really other people were the issue haha Leila was a dream to travel with and we are so glad that we are so comfortable talking her with us :)
Much love guys and I'll see in the next post!
Travel photos are coming and I'm so excited to share them with you guys!!
(also she hates escalator haha)
