Obelisco della Minerva - Rome
In the middle of the square there is Minerva obelisk. Its basis is an elephant, made in 1667 by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the most important sculptor of Baroque Rome.
The obelisk is the symbol of knowledge and the elephant represents the strong mind needed to support it, as stated by the Latin inscription on one side “ROBUSTAE MENTIS ESSE/SOLIDAM SAPIENTIAM SUSTINERE”.
