3 apps that are ESSENTIAL when travelling the world!!

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Travelling the world can be an amazing experience. You see some beautiful sights, meet fantastic people and have unforgettable experiences.

Here are three essential (offline) apps that every backpacker needs to ensure their life changing trip is a success!

1) "AndroMoney"

Knowing how much money you are spending is vital to a successful trip. There is nothing worse than having to skip experiences or fly home early due to a lack of funds. Downloading an expense tracker like AndroMoney will help you stay on top of your budgeting.

AndroMoney is my favorite one due to it’s user friendliness. Every time you spend any money (buy food, pay for a taxi, go partying) you note it all down on your app. AndroMoney then tells you exactly how much you are spending on each category (e.g accommodation, transport, etc). You can use this to make sure you stay within your daily/weekly budgets.

2) "Maps.ME"

This is probably THE BEST offline maps application. Available on both Android and the Apple store, this map will make sure you never get lost, wherever you go.

As soon as you have a stable WiFi connection, download the map for your next location and then never worry about getting lost again! This app is so good, I even use it at home in London!

FYI: The reason I say to download each map just before you go to your next destination is because when backpacking, plans can change fairly quickly and if you download loads of maps in one go, you risk clogging up your phone memory unnecessarily.

3) "Google Translate"

Google has a brilliant offline translator. Download the Google translate app and the relevant dictionary for whichever language you need and never have communication problems again.

The translator is so good it can even pick up on local slang and various phrases that other translators can’t understand. Being offline means it can be used anywhere and anytime, which is fundamental when you are travelling some remote areas.

"We travel not to escape life, but for life to not escape us"

Which other important apps do you guys use when you are travelling?

Another app is "world lens". It's freaking amazing. You use the camera to translate text. Point the camera at something and it'll change to your native language.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check it out!
