Another Day in a Paradise in the Desert (Dubai)!

in #travel7 years ago

My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon (we waited several months after we got married) by going to Dubai. She was 5 months pregnant with twins. I don't know how she did it, but she did awesome for sure!

Talk about a place with money to burn. Going to the Middle East was on my bucket list and it more than met my expectations. Of course, I know for every tourist area, there are at least three more areas that are struggling. So, we did what we could to see all sides of the equation to ensure we saw the all aspects of the city. If my wife wasn't pregnant, we probably would've been able to do a bit more.

Our first site was the Burj Kalifa...presently the tallest tower in the world. Saudi has one planned that will be taller, but Dubai is already planning one to go taller than Saudi's tower. There's a mall nearby with a water fountain show similar to the one at the Bellagio, and of course in good Dubai fashion, this water structure is the largest in the world.

We took time to head over to Abu Dhabi which was a bit different than Dubai, but still beyond amazing. The two cities are really pushing the edge of technology and passed by the Emirates Palace where you have to be invited to stay at the infamous hotel.

From there, we braved the 105 degree temperature (cool for Abu Dhabi and Dubai) to head to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, which is filled with gold, marble, and many other materials from around the world. It took 14 years to build.

A tray of Korans were so beautiful further setting the tone in the mosque, where women have to be fully dressed head to toe, men must wear pants, and all must not have shoes on.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on a gutra, the red/white checkered head dress and it really does cool your head down.

We eventually headed over to one of the man made Palms, most people don't realize there are two man made Palms where the temperature was actually about 10 degrees cooler.

Lastly, we ended our trip visiting the Burj Al Arab, otherwise known as the 7 star hotel. You cant go in unless you have a reservation, or dinner reservation (we ate dinner there our last night). Truth be known, the hotel themselves says the 7 star rating is a myth as there is no 7 star.

I highly suggest you go and drop me a line if you want some tips/pointers before you head over there.
