How we found Crimean surfer's paradisesteemCreated with Sketch.

Two years ago, four friends and a small doggy Joy, went to the eastern part of the Crimean peninsula, where the Arabat Arrow starts - a spit, that's almost 115 km long and separates Azov Sea from saline lake Syvash.
This place is vastly popular among water sport lovers. On the one hand - the Azov sea, very shallow and with large waves - perfectly suited for experienced wind-kite-surfers.

On the other hand - the Sivash lake, ideal conditions for beginners in this matter.

Since we left late at night, we drove to our destination in total darkness. Then we saw storm cloud, that was coming right at us. Soon, it became clear, that it's not a good idea to set up a tent under thunderclaps, so we stopped to wait out the storm in the first village. While all guys were resting and drinking beer, I decided not to waste time and took few pictures of threatening sky.

The storm wasn't going to stop, and we decided to set up our tent right on the roadside. However, some local people were a bit surprised by the strange tourists in the morning.

After waking up, we got into the car and drove to the village Kamenskoye, where we were met by our friends on the kitesurfers spot. Since the weather was too windy for surfing, we decided to take a walk along the coast. When we went to the sea, I saw a wide strip of absolutely deserted beach. It was my first time visiting Azov Sea. And I couldn't even imagine how beautiful it is. A wide ocean-like swash, green hilly cliffs, seagull flocks and not a soul around ...

A few facts, that you probably do not know about the Azov Sea:

  1. It's the most shallow sea in the world. The maximum depth is only 13.5 meters.
  2. The water is less salty than in the Black Sea, and much warmer (in summer sea temperature reaches 30°C/86°F). So it's ideal for holidaying with young children.
  3. The doctors say that even sand of the Azov sea has medicinal properties and advise to take sand baths.

During the whole day on the beach, we met only two dogs and immediately became friends.

After enjoyable seaside walk and swimming, we decided to cook the most delicious dinner - campfire stew and Crimean wine.
