Dreaming of Warmer Weather

It's getting to be a long winter in the Minnesota (as it does this time of year). How much longer can it draw out? Well, after surviving an Arctic Vortex of a subzero temps and two blizzards that brought twenty inches of snow, we're expected another twenty inches over the next 3-4 days. But, don't get me wrong, I'm not here to complain. I'm just stating the situation. Hell, it's why I live here: because I'd take snow and cold any day over earthquakes, wild fires, flooding, drought, or hurricanes. Relative to many areas in the U.S. and the world, the Midwest is pretty safe from threatening weather (for now: climate change pending).

I'm here to remember the beaches of Sanibel.

Where last month the family took a winter get away.

I've never seen beaches covered with so many shells! Blew my mind. Was hard to walk barefoot (not recommended).

Apparently the whole island is made from the dust of shells. There isn't a natural rock on the island (unless someone brought one). It's what the tour guide told us on our mangrove kayak trip through the protected J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
