PART 3 : Visit Western Wall in Jerusalem and The Mount of Olive to End Our Trip in Israel

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

I heard about the Western Wall many times from the media but I didn't expect I will stand in front of the wall one day. Sometimes I appreciate my job brings me to somewhere I would never think that I have a chance to be.

The day we arrived was Saturday which is Shabbat in Jerusalem. It is the Jewish day of rest. It starts at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday evening when the new week begins. Therefore, we need to obey and respect the rules - then you should not use any electronics around the complex.

This is from the colleague who took it from her last visit. Don't ask me why I could take picture there on Shabbat:P

There were many staff walking around to catch visitors who tried to take out the phone and camera. It's really strict. so I could only take the pictures after leaving the area.

Next stop will be The Mount of Olive. Before we moved to new place, we had to pass by the wall around the old town. The wall looks so old and broken but solid. How much difficult time this town had gone through and you actually can see from outside the old town and the walls.

Here we go - The Mount of Olive, is a mountain ridge east of and adjacent to Jerusalem's Old City. It is named for the olive groves that once covered its slopes.

The mount has been used as a Jewish cemetery for over 3,000 years and holds approximately 150,000 graves, making it central in the tradition of Jewish cemeteries. Yes, full of graves.

It is a really nice view up on the mountain and we were lucky we caught the sun before we left. Actually we had been there before we visited the old town but it was raining like crazy so we missed the amazing view! Happy that we didn't give up last minute.
