Philosophy up the mountain from the legendary Indonesian climbers

Climbing up the mountain, venturing into the wilderness is already ingrained for them. Can be called them the living legend of Indonesian climbers.

The meaning of the mountain for them is not just playing again or a place to have fun. They have found the meaning of loving nature.

The first to explain the philosophy of nature lovers is Soe Hok Gie's best friend, Herman Lantang. In a conversation with detikTravel on Friday (08/25/2017), at Camping Ground Tanakita Sukabumi, a member of Mapala UI, describes philosophy as a climber and nature lover.

"What is the philosophy of being a nature lover? It must be clean, like maintaining our own body, even in the forest must be clean too," said the 77-year-old man of 2.

For Herman, nature encountered and admired should not be tampered with withdrawing any plants, plucked the flowers.

"Let it live, because one hour will wilt if picked, if it can be written and made a song," said Herman.

Furthermore, Herman wants all young people to write all his travels. Because it will make the mountain lovers increase his vocabulary, as did his best friend Soe Hok Gie in the past.

The second philosophy still comes from Soe Hok Gie's other friend, Aristides Katoppo. The man born in Tomohon, North Sulawesi 79 years ago, considers the meaning of nature lovers or climbers is not that just looking from a photograph.

"If I think the essence of a climber or a nature lover is not just a look from a book or a photograph, they must experience it, either going to the beach, the forest, or the fast-flowing river," said the honorary member of Mapala UI.

That is, nature lovers must be in direct contact with the outdoors in order to understand. As Iwan Abdurahman, a member of Wanadri class of '64, said, when in nature and living it will find love that will instead keep nature and its contents.

"Should be solemn in learning from nature, because in solemnity will contain love in it," said Iwan.
