Night Market with Durians and Pancakes!

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

We had a walk at the famous Segama night Market in Kota Kinabalu, SABAH. We actually were looking for an old man who cooks street food, stir fried flat noodles @ Char Kuey Teow.

Rambutan (behind: Durians)... Tis the season of tropical fruits, mind you, not papayas or pineapples... But RAMBUTANS (little fruits with hairs on the peel and white flesh, with a seed). Many people loved rambutans because they are sweet and textured like jelly.

WOAAAAAHHHH... Every time the vendors open a durian, they will shout WOAAAAAHHHH to attract more customers. There were almost 20 stalls selling Durians, with many types and qualities. Common Durians are the forest and village types. The expensive ones are hybrids.

Durians only - whenever you want to buy Durians, it is best to ask the seller open it for you on the spot after payment, so that you can check the inside and you can exchange the durian of the Durians that you bought are rotten or watery.

Durians, opened and sold without shells...
Because some Durians were too ripe, the seller will open the Durians and sell them without the shell.

Freshly packed - some were beige colour and some yellowish. Both are very nice and aromatic. Rm10/pack.

Durians again - do you know that Durians can cause the body to be heaty. If your body is heaty, you might feel thirsty, warm, a little sore throat and you may feel acne appearing in later days?

Durians again!!! I

Mangosteen, which believed to tone down the heatiness effect from eating a lot of Durians. Mangosteen has this cooling effect that can cause your body to be neutralized from all that heat.

These are also very cooling to the body, they are 凉茶 herbal tea.

Home made soya bean milk and bean curd dessert.

Durians again! That's the last of it... I bought the opened one... RM10 only for about 15 pcs.

Pulasan (forest rambutans) - instead of being hairy, these fruits has blunt thorns on the skin. The inside flesh is almost the same like rambutan's, sweet jelly texture.

An uncommon type of fruit, selling for RM5 per KG.

Crispy pancakes - this is a very popular stall. Many people stopped to buy his pancakes. His pancakes are thin and crispy, cooked with butter, topped with crushed peanuts and cream corn kernals.

Cooked on the spot and you can just inform the cook what type of pancake you want. That night, I ordered one with cheese and my son ordered one with chocolate syrup.

We had a nice walk at the Segama Night Market! @flyingkittie

But where's the old man? You forgot, right? So fascinating. Anyway, maybe the old man didn't open his stall tonight, too bad...
